haha Every sport has it's quirks.
I found little league baseball to be just as annoying. On top of the games that were also long (like swim meets), they wanted 3 - 4 hour hour concession stands. No thanks to standing in the hot small stand frying and grilling with a mask on. I happily gave them my volunteer fee and didn't want to earn it back. Our team had 4 dads coaching and that's a lot of work too for them to do game, practices, batting cages, and field prep and clean up.
Concession stands need to stop. Families are fat as it is. They don't need to eat at little league games!

I can only speak for myself. My kids play another sport with concessions and one wanted to join swim team next year so o was reading all of this. I didn’t want to work fast food jobs in HS and I certainly don’t want to know. Concessions sell junk and that’s fine, but they don’t need it every single game and I don’t want to volunteer my time to keep it going. It’s not hard to get food around here, especially with uber eats. I pay the volunteer fee to get out of it and then tell them I didn’t bring cash when they want the candy, chips and sugary drinks all through every game.

There is no way a B meet runs over 6 hours.
Hmmm. The last one we were at, the kids had to be there at 5:20 for warmups, meet started at 6. Lasted well past 10:30. Two large swim teams. And I heard about a meet between two other big teams that had to end at 10:30 and they swam IM first and had only reached breast-stroke. All the older breaststroke kids and butterfly kids just had to go home.
Ok so you are including warm-up time. A meeting that goes 6-10:30 is 4.5 hours I don't count the time before the meet starts.
But the volunteer shifts start earlier than the meet. Concessions and Marshall starts at 5. Timers have to be there by 5:30

That is time they have to be there. It counts.
the only ones there for the entirety of a B meet are the ones swimming IMs. If you don't want to be there that long, don't have your kids swim IMs. The little just swimming free and back are out relatively quickly. My kids love the meets that go that late because they get to swim around with their friends during taredown and cleanup
Well, the point was that the volunteers have to stay for the whole meet, not how soon your kids are done if they are 5 and only swim free/back.
