In the short term, scholars said, that party dogma is likely to produce multiple election challenges this fall from deniers who lose. It could poison the 2024 presidential race, as well."

Yes, very much so. Yet I am kind of infuriated as the similar signs were present when GOP legislatures in MI NC PA + WI moved to curtail the authority and powers of newly elected Dem governors in those states. These kinds of authoritarian moves are made by Erdogan and Orban but nary a peep from national press, possibly a one-day story in one or two outlets but that's it. The US national press is so poorly equipped to cover this moment.

The GOP has moved way past good character, decency, or basic intelligence being basic requirements of public office—they just want a warm body to occupy a Republican seat.

Were zombies real they’d support them in office, too.

Does anyone remember how much taxpayer money the GOP wasted on harassing the Clintons in the 90s and their obsession with “honor”? Of course it was always a ruse but JFC.

Biden namechecks three of the Republicans who called his infrastructure deal “socialism” but who are begging Biden for some of that sweet socialist infrastructure money because it will be so beneficial for their district/state.

Actually maybe we need to start a Dark Brandon spin off thread.

It’s fascism, which is really what the GOP has always stood for.

I am not sure if this should go local, here, or own thread. But what the f*ck?

This case is really weird, no details on what actually happened.

She’s been indicted on two felonies:
1. corrupt conduct as an officer of an election
2. making a false statement or material entry on a state required form or report

Indicted on a misdemeanor:
3. “willfully neglecting her duty" as an officer of an election

I’ve yet to find any supporting documentation relating to the nature of the accused crimes. She apparently doesn’t even have an attorney on record, so she may not have even known an indictment was coming.

She was the official in charge of registering voters in Prince William County. Depending on the nature of what happened, I can see this sending chill into VA’s voting infrastructure among both volunteers and professional staff.

This is a weird case that is super light on details.

Best article I’ve read by local media in Prince William:
https://starexponent.com/news/crime/former-culpeper-voter-registrar-indicted-in-prince-william-on-corruption-charge/article_d74bf03d-ddff-5d4b-bff7-37a9872c2b58.html

Yeah, but… what did she do?

https://wjla.com/news/local/prince-william-county-general-registrar-michele-white-indicted-election-corruption-charges-jason-miyares-false-statement-neglect

They aren't sharing what she did. What the heck happened?

She resigned under pressure from former Gov Northam’s appointees in April 2021. So I’m guessing she did do something pretty bad.

But there are literally zero details other than the generic accusations from politicos and indictments from a jury. Maybe it has something to do with money & budgeting?

Maybe, but how much of her job would have involved that?
