I truly hope you don’t mean that. If that were the punishment meted out for what he did, prisons would be filled to the brim with people committing relatively minor, in the scheme of things, offenses.

You can’t give him 30 years because he happened to be pissed off by BLM instead of any number of other things.

As a taxpayer, I would have absolutely no problem with that. Someone like this does not change for the better overnight, if at all.

What does “someone like that mean”? Someone who commits a simple assault, or someone who commits simple assault while espousing conservative viewpoints?

You really would not want anyone who commits simple assault to serve 10 years. Without priors, most people would and should serve little if any time.

If you want him to serve more because he dislikes BLM, that thankfully isn’t how are system works and, it would be dangerous for everyone, including you, if it did work that way.

It has nothing to do with politics, though you may want it to - this man is hair trigger, and should not be around most people.

So first, you're conflating the entire category of people who ride bikes with the subgroup of middle-aged men in Lycra who ride bikes too damn fast on trails.

And second, yes, the behavior of middle-aged men in Lycra who ride bikes too damn fast on trails actually is different from the behavior of a sixty-year-old man in Lycra who assaults college kids with his bike for putting up BLM signs.

The anger/aggressiveness is in the same vein.

I don't think that the anger/aggressiveness of affluent middle-aged white men is bicycle-specific.

Indeed.

You are truly my hero, sir or ma'am. I thank you, on behalf of anyone that has ever been in your shoes. I am certain you more than paid your dues living near an pompous, arrogant, know-it-all jerk like this. May your neighborhood be even slightly more peaceful, with his presence publicly called out - as it likely should have been, long ago. May this happen more often.

Anonymous wrote:Note that he was on his way to Holy Redeemer - I'm not surprised. That's a very conservative Catholic church and many people who live in the immediate vicinity send their kids to school there. I'm Catholic, live nearby, would never consider it for my family. It's awesome, though, that neighbors and others who knew him turned him in, especially since he was actively trying to evade identification by hiding his bike and his clothing.

I will note as someone who has spent 15 years jogging or walking along the extension of the Capital Crescent trail in Chevy Chase as well as Beach Drive in Kensington that many if not most bikers in this area are rage-a-holics (and white men.) I once saw a biker hit an elderly person's leashed dog and pedal away from the scene, screaming at the dog owner.

The WTOP story states that he couldn't find a pastor at his own church, so he decided to pass by Holy Redeemer instead. (It would have been great if he had talked to the Nigerian priest there). Anyway, he couldn't have been a parishioner at Holy Redeemer. Regardless of where he is a parishioner, as a fellow Catholic, I am glad that he wanted to see a priest. This guy knows that his life in Kensington is ruined. His job and his reputation are lost. I do think that he knows that he did wrong. I know a few people with anger management problems and they know when they have lost it. What he did is wrong and I do hope that he gets the help that he is now seeking. Yes, he deserves punishment, too.

Anyone have proof he’s a Trump supporter and this is political? And that he’s not just an angry man?

Everybody is tearing this guy a part. I would bet anything he is not racist. Just like everybody else in the area he is probably liberal and lives a normal life. Probably does not have a racist bone in his body. But he is a cyclist, which means he is crazy. He was probably just mad the kid was blocking the bike/pedestrian path for a second. Have you ever watched the behavior of cyclists at Key Park next to the bridge?

I am pro cyclist safety, but they are crazy and bring a lot of the car nonsense onto themselves. (not the deaths, but the cyclist vs auto road rage)

Take your cyclist hate to one of the many cyclist-hating threads on DCUM, please. It doesn't belong here.

Every bar fight I’ve seen which involved actual cold cocking with black eyes on the other guy ended up with diversion so grabbing some papers out of a kids hand isn’t that big a deal. Don’t get me wrong the video is shocking. And he seems an ass. But the legal consequences should be minor.

My experience is different from yours, we’ll se I guess.

P.s. wait til he puts his character in issue re sentencing and all the neighbors who’ve seen his “act” (asshole) may line up to rebut his character witnesses...

Let me guess, he is the head of "neighborhood watch"....

It does not matter what he was mad about - point being, how would you like to live next to a hair trigger guy like this? No wonder his neighbors turned him in - he's a tool.
