The crock pot industry is not going to be happy about this development

Of course . Fanfictioning holiday schedules seems like a stretch, but it's a popular drama show about a family. Their mom married their dad's good friend after he died. Since he has kids too and his ex was friends with the mom it's not a stretch to wonder where his kids fit in and how the marriage may have affected them. It definitely hits home for those whose parents remarried someone with kids. Sometimes step-sibs get along as one big family and other times they have absolutely no relationship especially if they are older.

I don't get why some posters (who are themselves posting on thread devoted to discussing a fictional family!) find this so hard to grasp.

Because reading your novel about Miguel’s kids’ holiday arrangements is incredibly boring.

Then skip the posts you find boring? It's really not that hard.

What were the scenes from next week? We didn't see them.

This is my guess as well.

That shot in the preview was nightmarish -- I'm terrified of fire.

But I would have tossed that crockpot in 1980, so ...

I loved when she told Randall she needed him to come back from outer space.

Yes and she is right! The show is obviously trying to make sure viewers know that perfect Randall has issues with impulsiveness and tunnel vision. Bringing home his long lost father in season 1 didn't quite drive that home so he quit his job, became a foster dad, wont work again until he finds the perfect job and now wants to buy his father's apartment building.

Glad that Miguel finally mentioned his children for a millisecond! I was hoping they would not go the way of sitcom kids that disappear and are never seen or mentioned again. Miguel seems he11bent on getting Rebecca and Jack's kids to accept him into their family, but what about his children? There is a story there.
We learned his ex re-married and it sounds like to a man with a bit of cash, but we have not yet seen his children, nor do we know the affect of him marrying his best friend's widow. From season 1 we learned his kids are only a few years older than the Pearsons. 3-4 years is a big deal when you are young, but now they are adults do they have any contact with each other? We have seen Thanksgiving and Christmas with the Pearsons. Do Miguel and Rebecca ever spend the holidays with his children? What about their birthdays and special celebrations? Does he have grandchildren other than Randall's children who never knew Jack? I hope we see his children and his ex wife interact with Rebecca and Randall, Kevin and Rebecca and in more than just one very special episode.

We didn't actually see the family during the holidays this year. The episode where Kevin is arrested was supposed to be just before Thanksgiving & the next episode (the one where the family goes to see him in rehab) is takes places several weeks later. Maybe Miguel & Rebecca spent Christmas with Miguel's kids/grandkids off screen during the hiatus

^I did think it was off that they spent both Thanksgiving & Christmas with Rebecca's kids & neither with Miguel's last year, though. But, who knows, maybe they alternate years instead of holidays for some reason or saw Miguel's family during the week between Christmas & New Year's & celebrated with them then.

It was also a bit wierd how Beth, Randall, & their kids were with Randall's side of the family for both Thanksgiving & Christmas & with Beth's for neither last year but maybe they also do two Christmas celebrations & celebrate with one side of the family Christmas Eve/Christmas Day & the other side of the family later that week.

Not trying to be snarky, but it's a little odd that you've put so much thought into their holiday plans.

You need to get out more. There are actually people who spend the bulk of their careers -- not just the 45 seconds or so required to formulate a 2 paragraph post on the internet like the one you are referring to-- writing essays, articles & even peer reviewed academic papers in which they dissect & analyze the lives, personality traits, possible back stories, etc of fictional tv characters.

Um... and so, you fancy yourself one of these people, correct? This is just too funny. Carry on!

Ha! No, I'm not even one of the posters who was speculating about the characters' holidays arrangements & have only posted on this thread maybe 2 or 3 times (the post you responded to was by far my longest post on the entertainment forum &, as you can see, it wasn't even that long). I just find it odd that some posters think there is something strange about posters taking maybe 5 minutes to write posts speculating about fictional characters when there are entire careers (& academic fields!) devoted to doing just that.

It's not real life??? MIND BLOWN!!! What's next? Are you going to tell me that neither Will & Grace nor Bert & Ernie are actually platonic friends who are also roomates!

Not the PP, but did you also wonder about Bert & Ernie's holiday plans and where their extended families were?

Have you ever been worried that you can't handle the next episode of Sesame Street?

I checked this thread while watching just now on DVR and was thinking "we all know its coming, what is the big deal". WHOA, wrong!!! Those scenes turned my stomach to no end. I don't see how any parent watches that episode without a tiny nervous breakdown inside- I am not looking forward to it but know I will watch.

I’m now understanding Kate’s reaction in that episode in the first season when she & Toby are first dating and she wants to watch that football game ( was it the Super Bowl?) by herself while he’s pushing to come over & watch with her. Then Toby shows up unexpectedly. I think that was the episode she mentions watching with her “Dad” (meaning the urn of his ashes) to Toby.
Does anyone remember other details from that which make sense now after last night’s episode?

Maybe that’s why she freaked out in the car!!!!
Maybe pulling back up to the house, she remembers.......

I’m very much in anticipation of the coming week.

However, I could see it being the next next episode. They do that. Like, when Kevin left the play, we didn’t see the resolution of that until the next-next week.

Omg, yikes! Hadn't thought about that!

I'm so glad I have you guys... just finished the episode and feel torn up inside. the final scenes are heart breaking, seeing all of their memories in that home, and the song that was played during the montage. and how one PP mentioned Rebecca will probably think she caused the fire by not turning off the crock pot, sniff. Also glad Audio went home, he is too darn cute.

Jack's character makes me want to love again (I'm single....). He's gorgeous and so sweet.

Agree with everyone ... that was so tough. I am going to have a hard time watching the next episode.

On another note ... when Randall took over the apartment building meeting from Beth, it was like Jack stealing the show from Rebecca. Not in a bad way but Randall is definitely Jack Pearson's son!

Yeah, I already thought this episode was painful to watch. It didn't deliver the good kind of cry I've come to expect. Maybe, though, seeing the actual event will be easier than this one. Less dread. Less witnessing the beauty of what's about to be lost.
