Eleanor. I actually think it's a nice name, but there must be something about it because without exception, I don't know a single Eleanor whose parents aren't at least somewhat pretentious.

My mom said that you only use numbers, or Junior, after a name if the other people are still alive: grandpa has the name, his son is Junior, Junior's son is Trey. Once Grandpa dies, the son just goes by the n, with no Junior. So calling your kid The Fifth is both extremely pretentious and, according to my mom, wrong. Because it's unlikely that 5 generations would all be alive at the same time.

I knew a number in high school who had one of these nicknames, so this made me giggle. (I went to a prep school in MA, so really not a southern thing in my experience. Never met a number when I was living in the South.)

I also knew a IV at some point who said he was entirely set on naming his son, if he had one, His Name the 5th. To each their own, but I admit that while I can roll with meeting a junior here or there...once we get into the thirds, fourths, fifths...I just grimace.

Is your V in line to the throne of <anywhere>? No? Then there is no point at all and nobody cares how many John Jay Jingleheimer Schmidts came before. It's silly and PRETENTIOUS. As in pretending to be something you are not: royalty. Czar Nicholas II, King George III, Kaiser Wilhelm II

Even they didn't carry it so far.
