Meh. I seriously doubt that. Janeese is one of the farther-left people and to the left of McDuffie but that sure as hell doesn't make McDuffie MAGA. There's still a lot of miles between McDuffie's positions and Trump's.
I hate simplistic binary thinking. "You're either with us or you're MAGA" is a pretty shortsighted and un-nuanced worldview. And I'm saying that as someone who absolutely detests Trump and think he's a corrupt criminal scumbag.
Yeah, all the candidates are pretty liberal. But it is telling that Trump and his lackeys are alarmed by Janeese but not Kenyan.

Trump & Co. are not at all alarmed by Janeese. They would LOVE to have Janeese as Mayor. It would give them the perfect far-left foil for Fox News sound bites to keep focus off their own incompetence and corruption. Trump and JLG and their insane policies (on both ends) are just two ends of a horseshoe of crazy.

That leaves DC with either big developers who want to build Class A (at Class A rents) or else slumlords who are more than willing to thumb their noses at the law. It's progressives pushing things like Emergency Rent Assistance---which was extended in DC far, far past being necessary under Covid. All tenants had to do to game the system and not pay rent was claim that they had applied for ERAP---they then ran up huge delinquencies and the landlords were helpless. This was annoying and expensive but not fatal to big housing providers. Who did it screw over? The small landlords, many of whom were minorities, who were trying to build wealth by buying older, smaller buildings. When you own a four unit building and the tenants aren't paying and you can't evict them, your lender isn't giving you a break on your mortgage. So a big reason that DC lacks quality affordable housing is that they make it incredibly unattractive to smaller investors to invest in DC. I don't like Kenyan very much, but I have more faith in his ability to not make an already bad situation worse. Janeese's misguided policies will just make housing affordability worse.

Why can't I support something in between? Why can't I have a more nuanced position?
