I want to see him going thru the detector while holding a laptop, a large 3-ring binder and a wet umbrella above his head and carrying a backpack and a lunch box on his shoulders. He probably could also carry one more item, like, a violin case? He can hold the handle using his teeth.

Your precious baby can handle it. You must be young. We used to carry 7 textbooks, a 3-inch binder, lunch, an instrument, a bag for afterschool sports, etc. We only used 1 STRAP of the backpack, because if you used both you must be a nerd. Of course we didnt' have water bottles like the kids have now. Your kid will survive taking their stuff out of the bag, they are less likely to survive being shot.

Still waiting on the name of the school where everything is a magical day at Disney but by your snark we can tell you are either admin trying to defend this or Gatehouse.

I'd like to know too. Where is it working well and all is easy peasy?

How many weeks until FCPS gives up on this like bathroom monitoring and cell phone use?

Because most of the schools haven't started yet.

And the schools that did the trial runs in spring all reported massive headaches and lines. Yet FCPS did NOTHING to learn from that for fall. Why do a pilot program if you aren't going to learn a darn thing

Aren’t there lots of urban schools that have been doing this for years? Has FCPS been talking with them?

Pretty sure the ACLU got schools to stop using them. I know that was the case in my urban school district in the ‘80s after a school shooting made National news — which everyone promptly forgot ‘cause it wasn't suburban like Columbine.

I think these security backups actually make kids less safe. If someone unstable person decides to light tbings up, kids in line are bigger sitting ducks. Don’t get me started on how there is no security after hours during which someone could stash weapons.

I think some one’s on the SB cut a deal with a cousin or close associate for this.

After the bell rings all late students have to walk around the school to door 1.

Marshall started this week. And only has two doors open (front for buses, rear for drivers/kiss and ride)

What nonsense.

Look, we all want our kids to be safe. That includes no weapons inside the school AND no large crowds standing for hours outside the school.

We also want our kids to be able to attend instruction in all of their classes and not miss large portions because of this weapons screening.

Getting the kids inside the school is taking too long and having them all stand outside in large groups for a long time is problematic.

Also, there are serious questions about the effective of the screening process. It has been reported that kids can sneak in whatever they want if just placed inside a three ring binder. Also, of they are able to enter the school either before or after the screening happens (which people have reported as happening regularly)

So the people who keep saying that those who are complaining should shut up because this is what some parents wanted, I don't think that holds true. We all want our kids to be safe, but I'm not sure this system is accomplishing that

So your argument is that it's good for kids to be miserable?
