Especially when a Military member died overseas and Biden starts in on his son dying. I am sure his son’s death was tragic and terrible, but he died in a hospital. Joe and his family could say their goodbyes and make sure Beau was cared for and treated with pain relief, etc. Military personnel who die from being blown up or any hostile action don’t have that kind of death. Two different things, both awful, but not the same.

No, Military members who die in action in war are separate from people who doe from cancer. Both are tragic. But Beau Biden didn’t die in war. It’s not childish to point out the difference.

I have been thinking about your latter point recently: Dems really seem to try much harder to find compromise candidates that both sides can live with and to further bipartisan work as much as possible.

I do think many GOP are good people also but the military warfare approach to politics that military historian Newt Gingrich introduced in the late 90s and zeros has become gradually more extreme .

Many people want to see Congress much more functional and bipartisan rather than cheap point scoring and attack dog mode.

There is a podcast called The Focus Group.
It is just a deep dive into Republican focus groups and it is worth a listen.
It will inform your opinion regarding Republican interest in bipartisanship.

Glimmers of hope here and there (mainly from the intelligent GOP staffer working on the Hill) but mostly as I feared - moving in the wrong direction.

Many Republicans in the focus groups (who were screened to have higher basic political knowledge than many Americans appeared to:
- approve of performative theater with no actual productive outcomes such as antics displayed by MTG and Freedom Caucus;
- approve of going after establishment Republicans as RINOs (“republican in name only” even though substantive policies are often similar to MAGA folks: only difference is if they crossed Trump)
- see Compromise as a dirty word.

It does not look hopeful unless we have a culture shift favoring dialogue and compromise.
