It's technically not. The ball should never get to the goalie. 6, 8, or 11 other players failed in the field before it gets to the goalie. If the team is doing it's job the goalie shouldn't touch the ball. All good coaches have this mindset. You never blame the goalie.

GA2 is just a marketing term for clubs to "entice" players to their second team. I can't speak for every club and every age group but when we needed an extra player due to injury or something, we didn't roster a single GA2 player all season, we'd pull up a player or two from the younger GA1 roster to play with us that weekend.
Of course it's for marketing and it works. It's the same reason the options at the carwash are Deluxe/Supreme and Starbucks doesn't use small/medium/large.

The concern is having 100+ kids trying out for LS and knowing that your kid more than likely won’t be getting a true evaluation. If they haven’t been part of the club either by playing on a team already or paying for their “academy” you already are probably behind the 8 ball

Yes. More talented boys will always stay at LS because of encl. once they hit 13,14 the third/fourth team boys head over to VRSC and make the top team.
The talented ones leave LS for NVA, which has ECNL National team. Loudoun is probably slightly stronger than VRSC because they draw from the bigger pool of players. If you are deciding between these clubs go and watch one of their games - you will be able to observe the style of play and the coaching behavior.

For my 2014, I was just trying to build his spirits when he was taking it hard. He has to do his job, too, but I was trying to explain they win and lose as a team. He's just the last line of defense. His coach definitely didn't blame him and helped build him up too. Takes time to build that thicker skin. But he has to do his best too.
