Currently, Virginia’s abortion limit is at 26 weeks’ 6 days’ gestation. That limit would address your devastating diagnosis. I don’t see Rs succeeding in pushing back even if they had both upper and lower GA.
They have already proposed THREE abortion ban bills this year. They will do it if they hold the GA.
Did they succeed, though? Nope,
And this is why we need Democrats to hold the majority in at least one chamber. If GOP has trifecta, they will pass the most extreme bills. For all you folks claiming to want MODERATES, electing Democrats will serve as a check on GOP extremism. VA will still have Youngkin so you don't have to worry about the WOKE AGENDA.
Yes, how "moderate" are they.
They will prevent the religious extremists from banning/restricting abortion.
+1. Please vote D for state senate and delegate to keep abortion legal in the Commonwealth. If you want to vote R for all the local stuff, have at it.
Explain how a 15 week limit is a "ban?"
15 weeks is what most of the developed nations in the world recognize.
You need an explanation of your use of the word “limit?”
No limits. We won’t stand for it.
No limits. 8.5 months is fine with you?
Wow. Sick to the core.
No doctor would perform an abortion after the second trimester unless the health of the mother is at stake or the fetus isn't viable. YOu cannot name a single instance where such an elective abortion has taken place. So let's not be hyperbolic.
The GOP wants women to carry unviable fetuses to term or doesn't care if the life of the mother is at stake. Pro-life indeed.
Youngkins proposal would allow abortion after 15 weeks in instances of rape, incest and danger to the life of the women. So you should be good, right? Since no one is just getting an abortion for the heck of it at 8.5 months, according to you.
+1. This is where most of the country is, which is why Youngkin’s plan will resonate nationally.

Your ignorance is showing. Even with Roe v. Wade, there was only 6 states + DC without any limits on abortion. However, even without any limitations, providers and facilities had their own regulations on term limits and for almost all I am aware of, it was 24 weeks. Insurance, if utilized, also played a factor (out-patient/in-patient) on term limits.
Of the 629,898 abortions reported in 2019, 93% (or 585,805) happened before week 13. Only 6% occurred between weeks 14 to 20 (or 37,794). Only 1% occurred after week 21 (or 6,299) and 99% of those were because of mortal fetal abnormalities or high risk of maternal mortality (or 6,236). So roughly only 63 of the total abortions in the reporting year of 2019 happened after week 21 and for a reason other than maternal mortality or fetal abnormality. (https://www.cdc.gov/reproductivehealth/data_stats/index.htm)
Sixty-three. That's it. I would love to see the weekly breakdown of these 63 abortions to see how many happened during weeks 21-24 vs after week 24. Because week 24 is the latest nearly all providers would permit an abortion without an underlying medical reason, even in cases of incest or rape in minors who may have hid their pregnancies from their parents.
I'm not the PP, but to answer your question - yes, I am fine with a woman having an abortion at 8.5 weeks if a) she lives in a state that allows it & that is her choice or b) she choose to abort to save her life or to abort to save the fetus of suffering after birth in the case of fatal fetal abnormalities.
8.5 MONTHS. MONTHS. Not weeks. That’s what the “no limits” ghouls here are advocating for.
I'm curious how you think this procedure works. Please include the steps, with supporting links. Because even when a fetus dies on its own after 20 weeks, the only way out for the deceased baby is induction of labor or c-section. Ask me how I know.
If you really want to know the information is available. Google “partial birth abortion.” Suffice it here to say that it involves an induction and a tool that looks like a scissors, administered when the head is out of the birth canal, but not the rest of the body.
Are you sick to your stomach yet?

Not any reputable ones that support your claim that women can do this, at will, without any medical necessity. If it’s to save the woman's life, or the fetus is non viable, I have no issue with it. You do, I'm not sure what else there is to debate.
We are discussing the charming posters several pages back who support abortion with no limits. You are refusing to acknowledge that they support it all the way up until birth. NY state is one example of a place that allows it beyond 15 weeks

Have you just never, ever had a friend or family member who received devastating news about their pregnancy at 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 weeks or beyond, that the fetus was nonviable, that if it was born alive it would suffer, be in severe pain before dying? Really, you've never known a single person who experienced such trauma? Consider yourself lucky, you jerk. You'd take away that person's ability to safely end the pregnancy and avoid the trauma of seeing their baby suffocate to death. You'd force them to watch their baby gasp for air while turning blue and then choking before dying. You'd force a woman to go through 15-20 more weeks of a doomed pregnancy, knowing the end result would be death. You'd force a woman to go through the pain of L&D to give birth to a baby without a brain, traumatizing her. Maybe a woman whose fertility clock is ticking and for whom those weeks might mean the difference between having a successful pregnancy in the future and never getting pregnant again. You are not "pro-life". You are anti-woman.

We don't trust you to stop there. With good reason.
And we don’t trust you or believe you when you say that “no one” gets abortion for the heck of it late in pregnancy. That if a known lie and you should stop kissing yourself. People absolutely do abort perfectly healthy babies in the 7th and 8th month. It’s disgusting and frankly your denial that this occurs tells me you aren’t comfortable with it either but rather than reconcile your desire for legal and safe abortion with a sensible limit on acces to them, you just twist the facts so you aren’t forced the think too hard. 15 weeks is a standard limit all over Europe and most of the civilized world. Those same countries that limit access to guns also have 15 week abortion bans. It’s totally reasonable.
Send us the list of abortion doctors in Virginia who will perform "abortion on demand" at 8 months for the sake of convenience?
Governor Northam is one.
Here is one where Northam is talking about a late term “abortion” after the baby has been born. I don’t think euthania is legal in Virginia so intentionally killing a child is actually murder. But your team has such strange definition of abortion and what it allows that you want to stretch abortion to include killing a baby after it has actually been born. Bananas.
Killing a baby after it has been born is either not happening at all, or murder. This is already punishable by law, and not what these abortion bans in other states are about, there is no need for a ban to make killing a born baby illegal. No sane physician even does any late term interventions for elective reasons.
Read up on partial birth abortion if you need more clarity on this
