I have to admit that I can't side with Kate even though I kind of identify with her a little bit and frankly hit a mental health wall and pulled back from a cross-country move with my spouse.

My job circumstances are different, kids are much older and that was a part of it, etc., so I feel guilty about feeling that Kate is unreasonable.

But this is a TV show and not real life so while I think Toby was heavy handed and wrong not to talk about the LA offer to her, I also think Toby is right. Kate has a part time job as a music teacher. She has no degree or certification. Are they planning to live forever in the same house that they are in right now so Jack never has to adapt? Better than he move and adapt now.

I see it differently. I think Kate and Toby were both broken people when they got together. Toby got his act together more quickly than Kate did. Found the internal motivation to lose the weight. Found a job he loved and is doing well.

Kate is just starting to get her act together. It’s taken longer. But she is realizing they’ve grown apart and that perhaps for both of them to live their best lives it can’t be together.

No one is grey in the wedding scene. They are all their normal hair color and length. I mean Nicky is grey but he is always. Kevin says he is 45, so we know it is only 5 years at the max from divorce to remarriage. Could be even less if the divorce doesn't happen for another year.

The older grey scenes are when they are at the cabin at Rebecca's deathbed. Those are more like 10 years in the future. When people are closer to 50 - 55. Still probably would not be THAT grey but it is the attempt to make them seem much older than the current timeline to set things apart.

That was the first trip east - for Thanksgiving. Kevin didn't bring the twins with him that time because they were with Madison and her family. I'm talking about the last episode in which Kevin very specifically flew out to check on the progress of the new house - and said that he wanted the twins to "see the cabin." Ridiculous to travel with them at that age, for that non-reason.

Totally agree. That was a cringeworthy scene which made Kevin seem so self-absorbed. And it’s “Nicky”.

I think the writers were trying to beat us over the head with the transition from Kevin needing the attention and approval of strangers to being confident and focused on his kids. We see him on the plane ride east feeling self-conscious and making awkward comments to fellow passengers about his parenting. On the way home, he's relaxed and happily interacting with his kids. That weird hospital ramble seemed like the writers spelling out what we should already recognize.

The writers do that ALL the time, as if the audience isn't bright enough to figure it out on their own. I hate that kind of storytelling.
