Arguing in favor of residency fraud in an open meeting with FCPS staff and school board members is a real choice.

It wasn’t a bad meeting. There’s just a lot of upset Cardinal Forest moms.

I agree with you on the CF mom, but disagree that it wasn't a bad meeting. Sandy totally avoided a question on Rolling Valley, jumped all over a mom who held up a sign (and then Kyle jumped in to mansplain his kids were there and no one should shout (no one was), told the room to stop shitting on other schools (which no one was doing), and I walked away thinking-what the heck is going to happen in 27 and then again in 2030. At one point Sandy said if you want equity 'sell your house to a minority'. I heard nothing about how the school board is actually helping out kids.

I can’t believe I’m here defending Sandy. But she was responding to a speaker complaining that the school board didnt use economic inequalities as a basis for boundary changes and moving middle class and poor kids around to accomplish equity goals. And Sandy said that wasn’t legal. Which is true.

Whats Sandy Anderson’s position on postponing this for another year?

There was a Lewis mom there last night complaining about how their numbers won’t go up after this review and how the school board needs to do something about all the parents who talk mean about the school, because that’s filtering down to the kids and upsetting them.

I liked when Sandy basically threw the WSHS mess at the feet of the previous school board that allowed Daventry to move into the boundary, which led to the current overcrowding. I’ve never heard her publicly admit in an open meeting what we all know but the school board won’t do anything about.

I understand her point about residency checks in our current climate, however, There are ways to check without intimidating populations. We can’t have residency go unchecked at highly populated schools. The Lewis mom, who was lovely, made a great point about people in her community who continue to find alternative paths out of Lewis to other high schools in our county.

This confused many of us. None of us have ever heard people talk poorly about CFES. Many of us know people who live there and attend or have attended. I understand that she was upset, but her frustration was misdirected. We were all there for similar reasons.

She dodged questions, spoke down to people, and at one point starting saying that neighborhoods needed to stop talking about undesirable school (of which no one in the room said anything of the sort, besides one mom who said that Lewis facilities looked shabby). Lots of Cardinal Forest parents complaining (rightfully) about feeling like a bait and switch. A crappy meeting set up by a crappy rep for West Springfield.

+1

Even McDaniel looked mad at her.

So what? He’ll vote with her on every major issue. He’s got to keep proving to Frisch and (Sandy) Anderson that he’s Laura Jane Cohen 2.0.

Did she snivel at you? I’m guessing she did.

I’m really surprised that she and the others just don’t get it. They build up this fictitious enemy -a parent who choose a particular school for their child. I really wish I could support the school board. I want teachers to be paid much more and I want FCPS to be a world class school system, but instead I have to fight these dumb battles that our elected officials keep waging against us.

It’s so tiring.

Until January 2027

Plus the new high school rezoning that will have significant rezoning far beyond the immediate neighborhoods.

Plus the phasing in of AAP at all middle schools. The plan for that is supposed to be presented in the next few months.
