I am so scared to ask what is going on with the chest area of this dress.
I do like her attempt to do something kind of cutesy with her belt.

She should have worn, at the very least, elbow length sleeves. And a seasonal, opaque dress. This is a far too revealing outfit for the setting.

This outfit is successful whereas Usha's outfit is not because even though the cotton poplin and the satin are a contrast in both texture and color, they have similar weight and similar visual weight. There is a balance- you'll notice the clingier fabric is covering more of her body as well, so the proportions work too. Imagine this outfit with a short skirt- it wouldn't work at all.
Yes, people like Sharon stone are in the advanced class and can break the rules and still look good. The rest of us are still in the basic level class and need to stick to the basic rules. You have to be really good at fashion to pull off something like this, which is why it got so much attention.
I feel like this is a bit dramatic lol.
I was being tongue in cheek. But really that’s what makes really fashionable women remarkable. She can combine a cotton button down from Gap or wherever with a couture satin skirt and somehow make it work. For most of us, it’s better to play it a little safe.
