I recall in the first episode that the older couple at the airport said "wasn't someone killed" there - which implies that it was a KILLING rather than a death by illness or accident. So the BLSM is out ?
I think Rachel is not dead - too obvious and who other than Shane would have killed her.
Is it Paula?
The other clue I thought of is that it would have to be somebody whose body needs to be transported from Maui to Honolulu. So, not Paula's boyfriend.
Also, I am in the minority on Jennifer Coolidge's character, I cannot stand her. She's SO whiny and the dynamic with her and Belinda is painful. I've actually fast forwarded through a couple of her scenes.
I'm late to this show, but I have to say I completely agree. I love Jennifer Coolidge, but HATE this character. She is so unbelievably self-absorbed, needy, and whiny. I get that that's how her character is written, but it is painful to watch. She never once asks Belinda about herself, just expects her (Belinda) to drop everything and come running when she needs her. Ugh. And her interactions with the man staying next door - CRINGE.
I thought the Molly Shannon character was spot-on and it was nice to see her not overdo it. I love MS too, and was so glad to see her just play that role straight. Also love Connie Britton's character, even if she is completely absorbed in her work. Both she and Steve Zahn said some very true things and came across as so believable. I had no idea Steve Zahn was such a good actor.
Did anyone else notice that all the "bad" people were white, and all the "good" ones were POC? I thought that was very incredibly blatant and frankly, annoying.
umm Paula was a POC and as to actual harm caused, she was the worst person. Also no-one seems to have caught on to teh fact that Jennifer Coolidge's character is going to be bankrolling teh BLM guy and get swept up in "rescuing" him as he die from his coughing disease, she just switched him for Belinda, she realized what she washing with Belinda but just moved onto another person.
I couldn't stand Jennifer Coolidge's character. So, so selfish, self-absorbed, and needy. I found it totally unbelievable that the man staying next door would have stuck around for her utterly crazy behavior. Stalking him at the pool? Ugh. I would have run away so far and so fast.

Then again, his approach is one based in privilege. Most working class poor don't have the safety net to walk away from it all and live as wanderer of the earth. He has the confidence because subconsciously he knows he will be bailed out by his Mom.
The microcosm of the resort was a really good allegory of the wider social and class issues at play in America. Brilliant show.
Anonymous wrote:I can't believe the actor who played Armand had to do TWO horrible scenes - his face in the other guy's butt and then pooping into the suitcase. I was so disgusted by both, but have to hand it to him. Pretty brave.
Anonymous wrote:I thought Olivia was such a b--ch. Not only how she treated Paula, but also her parents and brother. Making her brother sleep on the beach? Her mother acted horrified, but she never really put her foot down and made sure the son had a room of his own. I felt terrible for him. However, (shallow alert) he was so hard to look at. His head was enormous and his body and arms were so tiny. Very distracting.
And before anyone pounces on me, if we can dissect the females' looks, we can do the same with the guys.

Connie Britton has a great line about everyone just fighting for a seat at the table of tyranny and I think this encapsulates what this show is about. The people with money or more power (white) abuse it but everyone else (mostly POC) are also just looking to get in on the money and power. They don’t have it so they can’t abuse it but they probably would, if they did. Kai’s summer fling (forgot her name, but the college daughters friend) is one of the worst characters IMO. She clings to the belief that she is better than the white family she is staying with but enjoys the luxurious vacation on their dime and, ultimately, completely screws over the man she is sleeping with. She put him in the position to take all the risk and made absolutely no effort to help when it seemed like he was in a position to get caught. She will probably continue to blame capitalism and white colonizers for what are actually her own actions.

Which characters on the show would you consider « good » other than maybe Belinda?
