I get what you’re doing saying these things about him because they are good qualities and complimentary, but he doesn’t need to be Harvard educated or president of Audubon or whatever to not have this happen to him. It’s actually dangerous because it implies that “model” Black men should expect better treatment than others. A Black man not educated at Harvard or not an ornithologist also would not deserve this. Black lives matter no matter what.

Many white people need the biographical narrative to actually believe it was racism. Many other white people appreciate the narrative, so they can pivot their ugly arguments to details like insidious doggie treats.

Apparently entitled dog owners have a habit of letting their dogs run off leash and tear up this bird habitat conservation area. As an avid bird watcher, he was used to encountering off leash dogs.

As a parent of a child who was attacked by an off leash terrier, I have to admit that's a bit of a hot button issue for me. I don't blame him for being both prepared and ready to call out these entitled dog owners.

I feel kind of bad that she lost her job. Then I think about Emmett Till.

Next thing you know they'll be talking about how she's such a great swimmer and how we wouldn't want to ruin her potential.

Also ... people who are actually afraid don't try to physically encroach on the person they're afraid of. They may lash out verbally or fight if cornered, but they don't take the fight to the person they're afraid of.

Lastly, Lady ruined her own life. If she didn't want to be called out maybe she shouldn't have tried to Carolyn Donham this guy.

No, my comment was really more about my experience reading the comments here and on other sites. As an African American, it has been really eye opening to read through pages and pages of relatively unfiltered comments, and to see just how hard people will push their own narratives in the face of what to me is clear data and clear conclusions. The actual incident in the park is not surprising to me at all - and that the perpetrator is a professional white woman in NYC mirrors many of my own experiences as a professional in NYC and other Mid-Atlantic cities.

And almost 60 years old. There is always more to the story, but what she did was wrong. If she wasn't racist more people may be interested in the rest of the story. She is paying for her actions. I hope she learns from this and bounces back.

I don't know if I hope she learns and bounces back. I don't want to be hyperbolic - but a reasonable way of looking at this is that she tried to get this man killed, or at least punished, for looking at her wrong. It's bone chilling, and evil. It seems like there was something very wrong with her - but I don't know if it's evil wrong, or mentally ill wrong, or what. And I'm sure me being a middle aged white lady who loves dogs myself makes me MORE sympathetic to her. But what she did was really bad.
