I didn't think that. They only knew about one missing kid. They mention rohypnol earlier in the episode so the implication is that the marthas drugged their owners into oblivion before taking the kids. It would be hours before the scale of the caper was known.

As for the walking through the woods silently part I think you have to put yourself in the place of kids that have been raised in an extremely punitive and restrictive culture for years. The baby I assumed they must have drugged as well though. And I think it was explicitly stated that the Martha that took the baby killed the "parents" to get away. That is devotion.

I also don't think that just because they took the Martha means she would spill. She knew she was dead already. The culture of secrecy among the underground networks was clearly ironclad. It is one thing to abscond yourself. It is another to essentially kill every other Martha and handmaid in the scheme and ensure no children made it out.

The real issue with the children's silence is that they were brainwashed, and lived with adults they consider their parents. For most of them being taken away from their homes would have been terrifying and traumatic, and they were way too young to understand the gravity of the need to escape for their own well-being. It is inconceivable they would have been silent under those circumstances.

Over 52 kids were stolen. Fertile hand maids stayed behind. They will not kill them because they need them. The Martha’s are likely goners.
