I think it is a little bit of both. It is harder at earlier ages, when playing out of the back against hard pressing teams so some mistakes/growing pains were probably expected. Their older teams are doing well in the top divisions. This week-end, 2003s and 2001s won 3-0 and 4-0 respectively.

Their 2005 team has been underwhelming, sitting at the bottom of its group, with 3 losses in 3 games, including one against the team just above.

Wow, sounds brutal.

Barca Academy Northern Virginia is the new name for Escola. Btw, what's your interest in this particular team? Did you watch the actual games or just looking for an opportunity to say something negative based on three games of one team?

I think you are a bit hasty in labeling it a rip off. You have to consider the cost of staying in Europe during the peak summer season. If you try to book a two-week stay in good hotels in Madrid and Barcelona with all meals, transportation and some additional events included, I wonder if you can do it for much less than $3K even with package tour companies?

Absolutely no one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to go to Spain...

Last year, for the older age group, the cost per player was around $3K for the trip to Madrid and Barcelona with everything included, but you had to pay for the airfair. Players stayed as a team with chaperones and separately from the parents. Parents could either book their own arrangement or go with the parents package for around $2.5K (airfair excluded). We decided that it was too expensive for our family, but those, who went, enjoyed the experience. They thought it was a great cultural experience and the kids played a lot of soccer against Spanish teams.

$3k and it didn't include airfare.....No wonder they say travel soccer is a rip off.

Thank you! That's good information. I wonder how it compares to ODP international trips? But I guess it's a hard niche to find anyone who has knowledge about both.

I don't believe they have announced any specific plans are for the older teams for the spring. They only indicated that some of the younger teams (but not the youngest) will start playing in EDP in spring.

True, I'm just excited to see how it works out. =)
