I find it hard to believe that June was unwilling to abandon Hannah (living in a safe, stable situation with a nanny who cared about her) but was totally willing to abandon her newborn nursling to a dangerous border crossing and no food whatsoever. Hormones alone dictate that would not happen.

I hope the next season is true to life and shows the execution of June, Nick, the Marthas, and Serena. With an epilogue that Hannah never saw her mother again, and Nichole was captured because she started shrieking because she was hungry and had no milk. The end.

You really think Emily would just abandon Nicole and rather than raise her as if she were her own child in Canada?

She wrote the message on the wall of her room for Waterford to find, she can’t play dumb. Nick will have to get it too now that he prevented Waterford from leaving the house and trying to find them.

So, I'm way behind and from reading this it isn't worth catching up.

All of this has crossed my mind as well. Just UGH on this entire episode other than the awesome Marthas.

I disagree it would be easier to get her out once in Canada. Why would it be easier? She would be in a different country, cant go back and would have no idea where Hannah is. At least here, fred knows where she is and there are other people who can help find her. I agree she can’t go back to the house, she will have to hide. Nick will have to get out as well. I suspect Hannah and Serena will help each other somehow.

But June would have left Hannah the first time she escaped, if she hadn’t been caught. She was willing to leave Hannah then but not now? Terrible writing. I am so angry at this show and I am relieved it is over.

She struggled with leaving Hannah behind the first time too. But June’s first attempt to escape was more self-interested, she didn’t want another baby taken from her, and since Hannah was already gone it was easier to leave her behind and convince herself that Hannah would be okay. After what just happened with Serena, June’s new motivation is not so much her own safety but rather saving her daughters from what their future will be in Gilead. Sending Holly with Emily accomplished the goal of saving Holly, now saving Hannah too is more important than saving herself.

I have a definite love- hate thing going on with this episode. June tried to escape before without Hannah, but now she realizes how poorly even the powerful treat thier females. But I do not get what she thinks she can do. If she could not get out without help before, how can she get Hannah out?

There again, the people who escaped to Canada seem unable to do anything either.

Lydia's going to come for Lawrence HARD next season. She's canny; she'll figure out that he didn't send Emily to the colonies. Is he untouchable? I don't know.

Actually, the battle lines are pretty clear: Lydia and Fred against Lawrence and Serena, who are (however unhappily) going to end up allied with June.

Nick needs to run. Now.

I think Luke is meant to represent a certain type of person, namely the type who is theoretically outraged with what’s going on, but who in reality doesn’t muster more than some words of disapproval for the atrocities happening elsewhere and then goes on with his life. Yes, he has a very limited ability to make an impact, but he seems to use that as excuse to do nothing, and he’s not going to risk his own neck to try to do something big.

I was thinking the same thing. He hasn't tried to go back or the story line hasn't followed him making an effort to rescue Hannah or June. It doesn't seem like he's making any kind of effort.

I am full on team Nick though.

Agreed. It's a shame, because that actor was fantastic in The Five. He's wasted in this part--the writers give him nothing to do.
