If MCPS wants to keep schools closed every time there’s snow or ice on the ground and keep the many professional development/non instructional day scattered throughout the current calendar, the school year needs to start a week earlier in August.
And we need to stop giving every single holiday off. We just can't do it.
Start with Easter Monday and the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

But it’s not that. Teachers have asked for more non instructional days to fit in grading duties and professional development. That they happen to put those on holidays for certain ethnic groups is just extra.
Riddle me this -- why is Lunar New Year off this year? It's not a grading day...
Same reason that we can’t have school on June 19th but we can have a makeup day on Presidents Day.

It will be indoor recess until March but that usually happens every winter because of cold temps
It doesn't happen every day because of cold temps. It will be closed because it is not safe for them to be out there until snow clears. Volunteer sometimes.
