The California map was also passed in violation of the state Constitution. Virginia's judges went with the Constitution, and California's judges have so far ignored it.
There is a rule that laws have to be presented to the public for 30 days before passage.
Democrats took an existing bill and replaced it with this amendment, claiming that this provision is met by having the public see the number of the bill for 30 days.

Democrats should start following, word for word, the exact playbook that Republicans are using for their most egregious gerrymandering.
That way, if they get challenged and it goes to SCOTUS and SCOTUS throws out Dem gerrymandering they will also be destroying the Republican gerrymandering at the same time with their decision.

New York, New Jersey, Washington, Oregon, Illinois, Maryland and Colorado need to get to work and get it done. Do it in 2026 if possible. By 2028 is non-negotiable. There is no excuse for waiting. I don’t want to hear about practicing good government, because you know what’s not ‘good government’? Letting our democracy slide into autocracy."

At the same time, the lines should be proportional. If 60% are from one party and 40% are from another, then the lines should reflect that. But somehow, the ruling class disagrees with that simply premise.
I agree they should be proportional. TN and MA have about the same proportions, but reversed, and 9 districts each. MA has no republican reps. TN is about to have no democratic reps. Neither is fair.
Massachusetts’s map was signed off on by three quarters of the Republicans in the legislature and signed by the Republican governor. Stop trying to make it an example of something.

The lines should not be proportional. They should be completely random from a randomization generator which takes its cues from glitter thrown up in the air.
Pure randomness is better in this case.

Regardless of skin color, the problem is politicians choosing their own districts. There are 435 House seats. About 10 percent are competitive today and declining by the minute with all the gerrymandering.
It's not a wonderful time for American democracy thanks to the Supreme Court. The Roberts Court will go down as the most destructive Court to the American experiment ever.
