A top place finisher playing in the bottom bracket of one ECNL showcase is not a pathway into ECNL.
Unlike ECNL your ECNL-R is not guaranteed of playing in a ECNL showcase. You can't plan on it, bank on it, write College Coaches with the expectation of it. You are not functionally a part of ECNL other than rounding out the bottom of a single showcase bracket playing against mostly other ECNL-R teams and the worst performing ECNL teams.

I stand corrected regarding Villareal, however, it still doesn't change the fact that ECNL-R is not a part of a Pro-Rel system within ECNL. It is a B team league for full ECNL Clubs and the A team for non-ECNL clubs. As a league it is on par with CCL, EDP and NCSL.

VIVA doesn’t have a full slate of girls teams. Some age groups have no team and others are a mixture. FCV this year started to to create “South” teams based in Fairfax but only in a few age groups. So it seems logical that the VIVA girls teams will combine with the FCV South teams to fill out full teams. Nobody is going to a different league it’s all expansion. On the boys side FCV didn’t really have much so they can be FCV VIVA “north”
This true. They have had no functional 08g team for a couple years. Last year the 4-5 08s played with the 07s, then in the spring the 08s fielded a low level NCSL team with mostly 09s. Heard the 07s lost a few players over the summer too, so that range definitely would benefit from the merger.

You people are missing the point of ECNL-r. It doesn’t matter which league has better teams. They serve different purposes. ECNL and GAL are national leagues for players interested in getting maximum college exposure, showcases, etc. ECNL-r players are generally done playing after high school. Just because a player is in ECNL-R doesn’t mean they are inferior. Just that they are not likely to play in college.

How is this partnership going to work for VIVA girls teams? Some here have said that fcv second teams would play ecnl-r so where will the viva teams go, NCSL? Or is this going to be the case that VIVA will be mixing their players w st james (fairfax) players to form one team? VIVA already had their girls teams so not sure how this partnership benefits VIVA if their teams are going to ncsl. Thoughts/answers?

ECNLr is the old CCL which was slowly fading away on the girls side. It’s just the ECNL wants the whole pie($). I do not understand why they did not offer ECNL to more clubs. Now was the time to do it. Consolidate everything, come back in a 3 years and make some adjustments(kick clubs to the ENCLr).
I think their main objective was to move into the boys side. Though the boys side has a lot more competition and is less league dependent.
