Because it *is* NBD. It’s a penny-ante street robbery. Something like that probably happens a dozen times a day in DC. You don’t hear about it because it’s ….. wait for it …….. No Big Deal.
If something like that bothers you, you aren’t cut out for living in a city. Move to some exurb if you wanna be in Mayberry USA.
So if you don’t want extremely elderly people to get punched and their belongings stolen, you shouldn’t live in the city? Seriously what is wrong with some of you? Someone who is almost 90 years old could be killed by that kind of assault.
A much better solution is dismantling the structural racism that forces young men into committing crimes of opportunity because they have no other options. And as a younger white person, I’m not going to shed any tears for an old white person having their phone taken because they belong to a generation that perpetuated the racist systems we’re dealing with now. They made their beds, they can sleep in them.
This is the biggest crock of crap.
They have other options. Lots of them. Like never before. They have chosen the life of crime. And, I guarantee you - when they get caught we will see they have rap sheets that are pretty damn lengthy.
Quit blaming everything on "structural racism." You are not doing these guys any favors by excusing away their behavior. They are capable of knowing better and doing better.
And, as a "younger white person" you lack total critical thinking and are more than willing to shift responsibility for crime from the criminals to the victims. You should be ashamed.
You, my dear, have a lot of growing up to do.
The people who post that "structural racism" garbage on every second post on this site are most likely bored local high schoolers who get a kick out of trolling DCUMers. TBH it is kind of funny. No actual person has the opinion expressed in the previous post.

You do realize that Boxer is a democrat, right? You know, the party that was instrumental in passing the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, which were seismic shifts forward in dismantling systemic racism.

Let’s just say there are multiple variables other than guns between those nations and the US.

Income inequality and demographics. I know it might come as a shock to you but Switzerland has extremely lax gun laws and has far less murders per capita than most countries. You could allow people to carry grenades in Geneva and it would still be a safer place than Rio or San Salvador.
You cannot compare countries with different demographics, strong social safety nets, and less income inequality like the UK and Canada to the US. A better comparison would be a dystopian country like Brazil that has dramatic income inequality and is currently ruled by a fascist.

NP. This retort is so tiresome. First of all, any personal attack like that IS a big deal. Depending on the location and time of day, it might be a very big deal. Second, city living should not inherently involve being the victim of a crime. Yes, it may be more likely that you'll be a victim of a crime depending on where you live in a city, but let's not act like city dwellers expect it or shrug it off. And even people who live in cities have crime thresholds. What many of us are feeling lately is that we've reached our limit and the level of crime is unacceptable.[b] Clearly you haven't reached your threshold.
