Rip the band-aid off and start making serious changes.
There are no financial incentives in place to change how soccer in the us is structured and operates. Our talent needs to go somewhere else to develop.
After 16-17 years old should leave. Watching the USMNT domestic line up in the gold cup the speed of play is too slow. They hold on to the ball a second too long.

I hope Vlatko took the team he wanted and not the team he was pressured to take. It will be his @ss on the line. Morgan was a good player in her prime. Soccer is easy when you can run by or run over other players. When athleticism equalize the game becomes about technical skill, soccer iq and coaching.

I said I don't know. She has been hampered by injuries. Maybe her attitude is great. When she didn't make the Olympic qualifying roster, Vlatko Andonovski said:
"Mal was competitive and she did well but there were other players I believe that performed better,"
“Sometimes you are in form or sometimes out of form,” he added. “For Mal, consistency is crucial for being on this roster. She needs to be more consistent day-to-day.”
Her coach called her out for not being consistent day to day. Maybe she had a great attitude, but isn't consistent. Maybe it's attitude. Maybe it's a mental issue.

I was the one who mentioned Rodman and didn't mean to hijack the thread. I was just mentioning her as a future star, not a replacement right now.
As to Pugh, suspect there might be some attitude problem, but I've never been able to confirm that.
I would like to see Andy Sullivan get a shot in the midfield soon.
Pugh made a big jump. She skipped college and went straight to the pros. The level of play is much higher in college and higher still in the pros. From what I have seen Pugh lacks vision and creativity. Right now she is a one dimensional player which makes her easy to defend at the pro level. I have heard she is difficult- yells at teammate. This is very common in travel soccer with the “star” players. People laugh at Barca’s principal values- Respect, effort, ambition, teamwork and humility.

The US turns the ball over too much. This is true for travel, college and the National team. If you turn the ball over against a skilled team the ball will be 5 yards outside your box within 3-4 passes. This does not mean you never go direct or long ball but you better rotate and cover.

Europe has gained and and they are only gaining faster and faster.

Much of their problem that goes along with age is the style of play has remained stagnant. They have not evolved and likely with it, have not evolved in player identification and training downstream either. There have been additions but no major turnover on this team in 10 years.
Europe has gained and and they are only gaining faster and faster.
We will always be big and fast but will we ever add technical and smart, top to bottom to that equation?
