Bethesda: 25.8% pay less than 20% of their household income on housing.

Mount Rainier: 54.6% pay less than 20% of their HHI.

My point? Higher income folks are pouring into Mount Rainier, paying little for housing, and enjoying disposable income on other things (Pennyroyal, trips to Hawaii, buying a new car)

Wow is this true about everyone in Mt Rainier taking trips to Hawaii together? What a neat neighborhood activity.

Yes! The City charters a plane to Hawaii each year.

You are probably right at some level, but the PGPS are not that great.

They are getting a lot better in recent years.

Mount Rainier Elementary is average. Thomas Stone is not great. Hyattsville Middle School is actually not bad. High schools are generally not great.

A lot of people send their kids to private school, which is affordable and well above average for the area. Private schools around here are diverse and rigorous. MD allows you to pay tuition tax free.

PG County actually has some really great and affordable private schools.... b/c the public schools are mediocre.

The public schools would be good if people didn’t send their kids to private school. But it’s a private school culture county.

It’s starting to happen.
