If you win, you can avoid paying the taxes by not collecting your prize. Problem solved.
LOL. I cannot believe that there are people mad at free money.

2 million is a pittance compared to the cost to the healthcare system and to the economy of having this pandemic drag on and on and on because some obstinate percentage of people keep refusing to do the right thing.
Every state should do this.

Totally awesome. I’m so happy for them.
I got my vaccinations in VA. I wish I only waited a week and I could’ve been eligible too.

Those who receive a COVID-19 vaccine in Maryland have a chance to win some serious cash thanks to a new incentive program from the Maryland Department of Health and the Maryland Lottery, Gov. Larry Hogan announced Thursday.
Drawings will begin May 25 and continue for 40 days, through July 4. Those who win will receive $40,000, except the July 4 drawing, which will be offering a grand prize of $400,000.
“Entry is very simple — all you have to do is get vaccinated here in Maryland, be a Maryland resident and be 18 or older,” Hogan said.

your tax money working hard
I probably pay a lot more tax money to Maryland than you do, and I’m fine with this. Ohio announced a similar program and vaccination appointments went up 28% in a week.
Or, maybe it went up as appointments were more readily available.
