The likelihood of getting covid outside is not zero. Not all adults are vaccinated. Kids are not vaccinated. Kids are in close contact with each other on the playground. The vaccine is to reduce your symptoms. You can still get and spread covid but the goal is for you to be asymptomatic. Great interpretation to meet your needs though.

+1. The “you can still get and spread covid” people are being absurdly risk averse. It is very, very unlikely.
And they are just encouraging more anti-vaccine types, who don’t see a point to getting vaccinated if people keep telling them that you can still catch and spread covid.
This would be rare. Not impossible, of course...but rare.

Just don't worry about those who still wear masks. If they're not bothering you, why would you judge? You have no idea what they've been through.
As an aside, I lived in E Asia for a while. People wear masks in big cities regularly sans COVID so why is it a big deal here?
Actually, the one judging was a woman up thread calling vaccinated unmasked people selfish. I don’t care (nor do I judge) people wearing masks... but I won’t wear one outside anymore. Thankfully, in my NW neighborhood, I see that most people feel the same way I feel.

I don’t wear mask. My 3 year old wears it only where there are lot of kids. If you don’t feel comfortable with it - stay home and let others live their lives!

Another liberal government scientist here who is judged for not wearing a mask outside while walking a large, mean dog. No one is going to get within 6 feet of me because Fido is on a 6 ft leash. But I do wear a mask at the playground. If my kids need to wear it, it's only fair that I do too.
I'm also on edge because my FIl was hospitalized with covid. He managed to get it twice and the second time was after he was fully vaccinated. So I absolutely will wear a mask inside
I’m so sorry about your FIL, PP. I hope he’s okay. I have a cousin who’s very dear to me, and who has been struggling with long-COVID for months. I still wear a mask inside (at the grocery store, gym, etc.) despite being fully vaccinated. To me, that’s more about setting a good example, since most adults in the US are *not* vaccinated and because we *know* indoors is different than outdoors when it comes to COVID.
People need to feel morally superior. It would be great if they paid attention to the relevant science and cared more about that than political posturing.

If everyone is wearing a mask, its one thing if you stay separate but once you walk up to someone you should put on a mask or ask if its ok. You should be in a mask taking to someone if you want friendly. I'd back away.

I didn’t wear my mask for the first time today taking my daughter to the playground. The other moms had theirs but I didn’t think anything of it. I attempted to talk to one of the moms, just being friendly, and she was very icy with me. Can’t be sure if it was because of my mask free face or she just didn’t want to be friendly. Either way it sucked. I’m a new first time mom and could really use some friendly interactions from time to time.
