+1. There is always the one kid in about 12-20.

I have volunteered as an assistant in preschool for several years, and it is always one kid each year.

However, I know that one of the kids who was much worse than your kid at this age is a typical 10 year old now. He gets good grades and does not get into any trouble. He was a handful in K, but something just clicked in 1st grade. I haven't kept track of the others so I can't say how they are doing several years out.

Hi OP. I work in childcare with infants through five-year-olds. Early childhood education is a passion of mine and I know these ages very well. I want to encourage you to take their assessment to heart. What you described as his behavior is outside of the normal, especially if it is ongoing. I’m a parent to and I know it can be difficult to hear negative reports about your child. If this truly is an issue an evaluation can help him out now rather than this becoming an issue once he is in school.

I would also encourage you to see if you can change him out of his current classroom to a different classroom with different teachers, or an entirely new daycare/preschool program. It could be that the environment is not the right place for him and he could do better in a more play -based center. If he does have an issue with impulse control having the ability to choose activities and have more freedom in his play would be beneficial for him.

So, yes, Montessori probably isn’t right for him.

BUT, you seem in denial. He needs a real evaluation by a doctor (not an OT). Something is up...it may not be serious, but, you need to address it now.

Yes, he sounds out control at 4 if those are happening everyday. It would be a nightmare to have that child in K with those behaviors. Do you do anything to correct his behavior at home?
