i'm in Bethesda/Chevy Chase and run on the Capital Crescent Trail. Too many people to wave to! I only wave and smile at the people I see on the trail all the time.

But a follow up question - how far away do you make eye contact or acknowledge others? I think I'm missing people or my timing is off. I do it close - 5-6 feet or so. But I think others "initiate acknowledgement" further, maybe 10-15 feet.

What's the best distance to do this?

You can wave to me as we cross paths, like we can high 5 each other.

I think about this post often. People in Bethesda never wave to me, but when I go to Kensington, Rockville, or other parts of the state, they always wave. Sigh.

Oh I definitely still do that one. NoVA native but lived in the Midwest for years and now we're back. It's a habit.
