There’s also large sedans (Altima & accord) of you don’t want an suv at all.

I wouldn’t get a car that is substantially bigger than what you need bcs of the possibility of needing an extra seat once in a while 3 or 4 years from now.

We used the third row a lot, but a lot of that was life style - we carpooled often and sometime hosted extended family. By the time they were in late elementary school though we had outgrown it and got something bigger. We also have a big dog and go on lots of camping road trips with lots of gear.

The Rogue has a third row now? Good to know.

I didn’t post that but I think it was an older model that had a 3rd row.

Thanks.

VW now makes a 3rd row option for the Tiguan- might be a good choice if a CRV sized car works for you 95% of the time but you really want the occasional flexibility to haul around 7 people in a pinch.

We are a family of two (one adult, one child), plus a dog, and I drive an Explorer. I needed the cargo space to cart our skis, without dropping the back seat, because then my child or the dog would have to ride shotgun, which I don’t feel is very safe.

So we collapse the third row, and use it for cargo space. Kid and dog sit in the back seat. I drive.

if your husband has his own car why don't you find a car that's best for you and the kids?

You don’t need a seat with seat belts for kids stuff. You need a 3rd row if you regularly have 5 or more people in your car. I had the Pilot for a while but really only used the 3rd row for camo carpooling in the summer. Now we have a Honda crv and it’s plenty big enough. We have 2 dogs that fit in the back too. When we go on trips like to the beach we put a bag on a platform thing on the back/hitch.
