Actually, that is how it's working. Arlington prioritized healthcare workers, then teachers and then opened it up to seniors. If someone who doesn't intend to teach takes a vaccine, they are literally taking it from the pool that would go to a senior. The system in no way forces someone who doesn't intent to keep teaching to receive a vaccine now. They can register through the state like everyone else and wait.

If someone says they’re not going to take the vaccine because they want another person to take it, it doesn’t automatically go to that person. So you can have your self righteous anger but it doesn’t change what’s happening.

That makes zero sense. We need our population vaccinated. I’m a healthcare worker and I received my vaccination through my employer. If I could’ve said please get this to my mother or so and so is auntie instead I sure as hell would half. But I couldn’t do that. So I took the vaccination so I can continue to contribute and I pray that my mother will get through for her own appointment soon.

As a community, we've set up an order of priority based on certain values. It's not a free for all. Pretending to be a teacher to jump in line without intending to continue to teach and contribute to the community is dishonest. Just because you can't give your dose to a particular senior, doesn't mean that it wouldn't go to a senior. They're next on the priority list.

I adore your idealism. Truly. But it really just doesn’t work like that. And neither of us set up the system. It isn’t going to go to a senior. If we were all able to sit down and the next dose go to a senior, many would. It really isn’t set up this way. If it were truly community-based everything would be different. But this is much bigger than what our individual choices allow for. Please be patient. And maybe a teacher or two get a vaccination and never return to teaching. Those are still citizens that received a needed vaccine. So I don’t see that as a loss.

In my brother's medical practice, some of his older co-workers had intended to retire at the end of 2020 but agreed to stay on for a while after getting the vaccine. Out of a sense of moral obligation, a sense of ethics.

You don’t know why they took the loa or if they’re vaccinated. There is no point to this thread minus none of us being present in our lives when responding to it.

If you're talking about things we need, we need for teachers not to quit in March. Vaccinated or unvaccinated. But we don't get what we need, do we?
