Your opinion is that 71 is intolerably hot so of course it wouldn’t bother you if a guest lowered it, but obviously the host and owner of the home has a different comfort level....hence why they choose to keep their home at that temperature. What if the menopausal guest decided to lower the temperature to 51 degrees after the hosts were sleeping because that was most comfortable to her? Would that be equally acceptable to you?

They may also have an old system that takes awhile to get the house back up. Even just a few degrees in cold weather can take awhile.
