As a Catholic, on the first day of Lent, I say RIP.

It's a tough pill to swallow.

Initial post was now more than 48 hours ago. Is there any ongoing objection to people posting at will? I know Jeff has been deleting posts this morning, and I don't want to make more work for the moderation.

Specifically, is there any objection to discussing Limbaugh's life by posting his own words, appropriately sourced, even if they are offensive words? Thanks.

Safe to assume that 48 hours have passed?

I don't care how much money he raised for charity, anyone that celebrates people dying of AIDS, deserves nothing but contempt.

Just to be clear, this precedent was set many years ago. It has been observed at the deaths of Marion Barry, Antonin Scalia, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg to name a few.

This. If you can’t say something nice (or even neutral) then don’t say something that gets you blocked.

Why say anything at all? Why even open the thread?

I’d tell you. But then Jeff would block me.

You can post what you like in a couple of days. Jeff said as much in website feedback.

What is the grace period exactly.

48 hours

Just can’t wait to talk ill of the dead huh?

Exactly.

Well, at least we’re establishing a clear and defined precedent for the next time, when it’s someone else of note for whom divergent opinions are held.

48 hours it is.

I was thinking about this today while driving home...

Radio as a broadcast medium has existed in this country for just about 100 years, at most. Really, closer to 90 years for it become really widespread.

Limbaugh DOMINATED the medium of radio for over a THIRD of the time it’s existed. That’s just unfathomable.

And he went out on top. The King of Talk Radio, right up until his passing.

Think about how amazing that was.

As he should, just from you posting your nonsense at all.

I’m going to miss his sense of humor more than anything. Lots of talk show hosts say similar things, but he had a very unique ability to work satire, sarcasm and mimicry into hilariously funny criticism.

“Illustrating absurdity by being absurd”, as he called it.

Many times I’ve been howling with laughter over something he said, that was so effective at driving the point home.

No one else has that knack for humor in political discourse like he did. The man was a genius when it came to poking fun.

I am a better American citizen because of him. I am going out of my way to teach my children about our country because of him. He will influence many of us for years to come.

What kinds of things will you teach your children thanks to Rush?

How damn lucky they are to be Americans. That they owe the generations before them that gave everything for them to be free. That America is built on principles and values that never before been used in forming the basis of a government, and those principles are what make us exceptional. And that we are always only one generation away from losing it all.

Very well said. RIP Rush. I won’t cry for you because that’s not what you want. You want us to fight. We will fight

So agree with this. Rush believed that America was worth fighting for, worth saving for our kids and generations to follow.

You needed Rush Limbaugh to teach you that? Maybe you should have paid attention in school, read some history, or a newspaper.

You know, it feels bad to make nasty response to this comment, but perhaps, dear reader, it is you who should have paid attention in school, during the lesson you might have had had on reading comprehension.

No, I did not "need" Rush to teach me these lessons. If you would ponder a bit before attacking your keyboard, you might take the time to read the question that I was responding to with this comment: What kinds of things will you teach your children, thanks to Rush?

This.

We can honor him by winning “in the arena of ideals”, as he coined the term. He wouldn’t want people crying over his passing. He would want them inspired by his message, and striving for excellence in what they do. Because that’s at the essence of what made this country great.
