OP here. I got distracted and have been able to check this the last couple of hours. It has nothing to do with not agreeing. I asked the question for this reason. I didn’t see it from the point of view of him getting my middle name or last name. My last name is hers too so he will be gettin our last name. She suggested we name use my middle name for his middle name because she likes it. I would be fine if she didn’t want to use my middle name. I will go ahead and go with her choice.


You knew what we were asking so don't pretend. Your wife changed her name to your last name, no big deal and lots of women do it but, it is originally your last name.

OP here. Well people have different opinions. We both like Owen. A name has little to do with a kids behavior. It’s the parent, not the name.

This is really rude. OP asked about letting his wife pick the name, not whether you like the name. Keep you opinions to yourself. No one cares what you think about the names.

PP here. I think Owen is the nest of all of these but my opinion is irrelevant, as is yours. The mom strongly prefers Connor. (I’m on team 1-n Conor myself.)

Just because it’s common doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be questioned and credited if the mother agrees to it. It is not a given. I’m a married woman and my child took my last name. His first name is a name important to my family and his middle is his father and paternal grandfather’s middle. We had equal say in all of those choices. Since he carries my last name, though, I gave him final call in any first name that I didn’t veto.

Wow, so the baby is getting your last name (NOT normal anymore, these days it's split and more women are choosing to give the baby their last name), your middle name, AND you want to choose the first name as well instead of something that is in your top 3?

Holy moly.

Do you know that she can legally give her baby any name she likes, including the first name, middle name and last name, and there's not a single thing you can do about it?

OP here. He will be getting my last name. She has my last name too. The name she loves in Connor. We are also considering Owen and Caleb. His middle name will be Matthew.

I'm glad you decided this - it will be supportive of your wife and make her feel like you value her preferences. Plus Connor is the best name of the three!
