While Kai is not featured in it, the original Andersen's story
main characters are a boy called Kai and a girl called Gerda. He was swapped by the Snow Queen into her beautiful sled and
his heart was changed by the bit of an ice that got into it. Took Gerda a lot effort to get to find him in the Ice castle and her kiss
melted his heart finally.
Original story is so different from Frozen.
Still, the name Kai rocks.

Wait... who is Kai in Frozen?
Ok, so I just checked and there's NO WAY to contribute the popularity of the name Kai with a non named character in Frozen.
The movie never mentions his name -- not even once, I checked... and unless expectant parents are researching baby names of unnamed fictional characters on IMDB, I highly doubt there's any correlation between Kai's popularity and Frozen.
Btw OP, I love, love, love Kai (I grew up in Hawaii and it's very common and popular there).
All of the hottest guys were named Kai. š

Florida? Go figure, it is more of a cold climate name to me![]()
I would imagine that every other boy in Florida would be called either Ernest or Hemingway.
My son is a friend of Kai here in AZ. His dad is Hawaiian, so I just assumed that's where the name came from. Wherever it's from, I love that name!

Get out more. It was (is) a very common first name in Germany, mostly for men born in the 60s and 70s. It means warrior or fighter and is derived from Old Low German.

Malikai is his full name.
Is that a twist on Malachi?
