Current Enrollments:
2024 453 students
2023 466 students
2022 454 students
2021 436 students - graduated

Hard to see them taking 30 kids. Especially when there is projected incoming class of 550 - resources will have to be marshaled towards that class.

Ironically, voting for expansion of the freshman class may have negatively impacted the number of sophomore admits.

550 seats is only for the incoming freshman class of 2025.

TJ admissions did not allocate extra seats for Class of 2024 so for sophomore admissions, the number of spots would depend on how many rising sophomores are choosing to go back to their base schools.


They had at least 30 open spots. Under the old rules the class size was capped at 480. The current rising sophomore class has around 450.

TJ is hoarding educational opportunities and only pretending that they care about expanding access. They are trying to only do what is easiest for the adults that tun TJ vs the students that are ready for the classes only offered at TJ.

At this point, I don’t care if my child isn’t accepted. I’m just sick and tired of the armature way that TJ admissions is run. I’m writing to my school board member and cc’ing Brabrand. Everyone who was denied a seat in the sophomore should submit an appeal.

This is not accurate because I know for a fact less than 10 people were admitted. The number was single digits.

Yeah, it is honestly quite annoying that we can not even do anything about it. Plus, I feel like it is kind of unfair to us and that they should fill the spots and allow more sophomore students.

Maybe at your kid's school but here at Oakton 9th graders don't take the PSAT. If your kid goes to a school where they take the PSAT 10, that will most certainly work. Just remember that your kid has to get in the 90th percentile in the PSAT 10, or else there isn't any point in even submitting the score, as tj says you need 90th percentile for it to be a 'plus' for your application.

I have to take the SAT and get at least a 1340 (90th percentile score). I took my first practice test last week and got a 1270. I need to raise that score by 70

I wish luck to your kid, tell me how it goes. Also, remember you need an unofficial transcript of past High School taken in ms or summer, as well as 1st semester 9th grade classes. Just email the transcript handler at your school and ask for an 'Unofficial Transcript.' That's what I did with mine, and she sent it right away. Good luck!

Thanks! I've worked really hard to get in sophomore year. I took geometry honors over the summer and am taking econ right now.
