Thanks, Republicans, but no... you understand that the Dems control Virginia and you won't affect their votes, right??

Move to Texas if it's that important to you. Ugh.

I'm a Democrat and have been LOUD AND CLEAR I support this bill and I know more people like me that aren't like me. I've not only emails, but I've called twice about this.

Newsflash! Democrats care about equality and education too!

So I think that's the problem. It's too vague and there aren't enough details.

Give your suggestions then. It's a work in progress, but the general goal is there.

PP here, I'm not for it, so.....

The bill will go before the full VA Senate next week (wk of 2/1). Please contact your VA State Senator right away and share your opinion!

You can find his/her contact info here: https://whosmy.virginiageneralassembly.gov/

If it passes the full senate vote, then it will go before the House of Delegates the week after (wk of 2/8). Please contact your VA Delegate and share your opinion!
You can find his/her contact info here: https://whosmy.virginiageneralassembly.gov/

If it passes the House of Delegates, then it will go before Governor Northam. Please contact Governor Northam and share your opinion!
You can do that here: https://www.governor.virginia.gov/constituent-services/communicating-with-the-governors-office/

I know there are tentative plans to bring kids back into the classroom in March, but we can’t rely on that given the teachers unions’ bully pulpit, especially w/r/t next school year. There needs to be someone/something that PUTS OUR CHILDREN FIRST!

Thank you!!!!

"This bill is a political stunt. Not a sensible effort. And it’s not going to pass."

+1
I do think a state level mandate is needed to follow the decision guide that's now out. But this bill is so simplistic it's clearly a stunt and not a serious effort.

Stick with the privates at least for 1 more year. I can fcps returning for a mere 2 day/week, if that, and then find an excuse to delay.

At least with private you're guaranteed 5day/week

I wish we had the funds to send our kids to private school. I'm so frustrated. Unions are evil.

I agree that kids are struggling. They need to be in school. I'm glad parents are uniting. I think this is the only way because the unions are too powerful.

Curious (and not trying to be snarky), but why aren't you and your collegues speak up? Or at least start to distance yourself, even a bit, from the federation. Clearly, they're not representing your views (at least not anymore, right?).

I guess it's yet another case in vocal minority & quiet majority.

Here is a teacher who is speaking up... https://twitter.com/DeAngelisCorey/status/1355214706089340933?s=19

What if in 3 yrs there is a new emergency -- like a war on our shores or another virus or some other threat? This bill seems to take away the governor or school superintendent's ability to shut down schools for any period of time to assess the situation.

This bill is a political stunt. Not a sensible effort. And it’s not going to pass.

Senate has 1 vacancy, 18 Republicans, and 21 Democrats. If the 2 who crossed over in committee cross over and all Republicans vote for the bill, it'll be a vote of 20 Y, 19 N in the senate.

The house, with 55 Democrats to 45 Republicans, would need much more cross over.

Which is why it’s time to convince Dem members of the House and Senate that parents support this and will primary them and/or vote for their opponent if they side with unions over kids. Moderate suburban women flipped Va blue. Dems are terrified of the teachers unions, who don’t vote. Many of the teachers don’t live in their district.

Personally, I’m hitting every House and Senate member that I’m donating to them or their opponent and definitely voting in 2021 based on this vote. This is how they lose the House and Senate next year. That’s the political pressure unions bring. Not just letters. But money and mobilization of teacher votes. Parents have more votes. Time to make them aware of that. It’s time for parents to unionize. Seriously. We need a click and sign letter. We need a war chest to threaten people with. How many people on here would pay $100 to band together and speak with one voice and be an actual constituency?
