Meant why ASA parents are complaining about being forced to play a tournament the club is hosting above.

I don’t get why teams being forced to play in a tournament your hosting is happening. Esp at the older ages you KNOW this is going to happen if you play for ASA. What do you expect? Are the top teams in your age groups playing in the flight above the second and this teams etc? Isn’t that what is supposed to happen— kind of like tennis?

It sounds like there may be something to the original complaint if a team was that easy to identify based solely on the fact that they’re a lower-ranked Arlington team holding their own. I’m not an ASA parent, but our team is playing in the tournament and it’s been a well-run tournament and very enjoyable. Kudos to Arlington for putting it on - it reminded me that this was the same tournament we played at last year, the only spring season play we had, before COVID shut everything down. Here we are one year later, back in action!
Anyway, whether your team is doing well or not, let’s all be happy that the kids are getting the chance to play this spring and starting the season off with hopefully a few competitive and fun games.
DP. As one of the team leads who is spending my entire weekend down on a field to help make this tournament happen, thank you for your kind words. We’ve all put so much work into making this happen, and I’m glad so many teams are having a positive experience. It makes all of the effort worth it.
I can also appreciate the complaints from some of the Arlington teams, though. I don’t think their complaints are so much that they think the tournament should be stacked in their favor, more that they shouldn’t be forced to play in a tournament that is a poor fit for their level just because their club is sponsoring it. It’s not a good experience for young players to start the season getting blown out by double digits. It’s not a good experience for a team to be told it was an accomplishment they managed to keep the blow out loss to single digits. It’s not a good experience to be told your cancelled game doesn’t matter because you were never going to advance anyway when you haven’t been mathematically eliminated. There are a lot of teams who would have gotten more value from skipping this tournament and squeezing in some scrimmages against more appropriate teams elsewhere. If they were teams who chose to enter this tournament I wouldn’t think it’s such a big dead, but these teams weren’t given a choice, even when they voiced concerns to the club.
From everything I’ve seen, the kids are being good sports about it on the field and I’m incredibly proud of them for that, but I won’t pretend their feelings off the field are invalid here.

Agree about it looking balanced to me. According to youth soccer rankings, you have the following va ranked teams:

It’s not that you personally did anything wrong, more that ASA basically lied to two other teams about how it would work when yours was created (which happened only after kids were already committed and couldn’t just leave for another team - a bunch of them would have if they’d known what ASA was going to do at their expense). But it does mean that those two teams don’t want to hear how your team is having a good tournament when they got screwed so you could have that experience.
Leave for another team should be leave for another club.

That’s part of it. Usually the kids coming from the program you were in last year try out to fill in gaps in the two teams above you. The majority of kids on your team wouldn’t have gotten ASA travel spots for this year and would have gone to another club or back to rec. Instead you got your own team with a bigger roster than either of the other two teams, who have at times struggled to field a full squad because they’re so lean. One of them basically doesn’t have a dedicated goalkeeper anymore either, which apparently you guys do and that team resents the shit out of you for it because ASA essentially told them to go screw. Both teams were told at the start of last fall that your team would be a long-term tryout to fill out the other two team’s rosters over the course of the fall season, and that simply hasn’t happened.
Also, that seeding where you’re having a good tournament historically is given to the team that’s just above yours. Giving it to you meant they got pushed into a higher division that they have no business being in, and then the team above them got pushed into a more stacked bracket to accommodate it. They’re both having shitty tournaments just so you could have a good experience, because for some reason ASA is treating you all like the golden calf. Long term it will probably work out fine for you, because a bunch of families from those two teams are planning to try out for different clubs for next year if ASA won’t commit to disbanding your team after this, so there may be more spots for your players next year. Hopefully ASA doesn’t treat you all as poorly next year as they did those two teams this year.

I think the seeds are right and Arlington usually dominates all tiers of this tourney. How did they stack the tourney against themselves? Are you new to this tourney or travel soccer?
NCSL div 2/3 teams playing a bunch of CCL teams seems like a fair match-up to you?
Depends on the teams. It could be absolutely fair. It's the first game or two since the fall. Relax.
