I remember this post from last year. It made me laugh then, and me makes me laugh now!

We were deciding that we liked a less elite, but happier, school better.

PP, I think most us are very well aware that schools alone don't change lives. But, until you know where your kids are going to school, it's harder to visualize. Once you know, it's nice to become part of a community, or at least to look forward to it. I also remember what I was doing when I found out I was admitted to the college I wanted to go to, to grad school, when we found out our offers had been accepted on the two homes we've lived in, when I've been given offers for jobs I really wanted, and the like. I don't think anyone thinks these moments are life changing, but it's nice to remember the moment you found out which your life/community/career is headed, at least for the time being. I think it's nice, and for $30,000 per year, it had better be nice!

I don't remember what I was doing aside from opening the mail. This posting is really odd. Folks remember that getting into an elite school will NOT change your child's life. It's what he/she does at the school.

I was opening an envelope that had come in the mail.

I do remember when we got the good news. I was thrilled and it was an important moment. We very much wanted our son to go to the school, which he now loves, and we were very happy to hear that he could. If I think something is worth spending $30,000 per year at, shouldn't it be important enough to me to remember when I knew it was a real option. Many of you ladies (and men?) seem just mean, mean, mean.

I remember the day I found out we were moving to a place with outstanding public schools more than I remember the date my kids were accepted to private school.

I do remember what I was doing. I was setting up for dc's birthday party in March. Husband brought the mail to me. DC was accepted to the three schools we applied.
