Haha this house is nicer than like 75% of what is in Fairfax county. Its completely similar to what Burke/Springfield are completely full of but closer in and its nicely updated.

It's a run of the mill split level. It's nothing special.

That said, it's not really much closer in than West Springfield for example. Right now it is 26 mins from West Springfield to the White House and 16 miles. Fort Hunt to the White House is 29 mins and 13 miles. At rush hour, the commutes are comparable.

Hi Arlington poster. Hope you are enjoying your easy commute to your job in DC (where nobody is actually working) and your distance learning in Arlington public school.

I've been out here in 22309 on my 1 acre lot and 5500 square foot house that cost me less than you paid for your .25 acres and 3000 sq foot house. My kids are attending Catholic school everyday, and my boat is ready to get back out on the River when the weather warms up again. You might want to try it before you knock it.

I bet you even have a better home security system in your high crime mcmansion.

Are you joking? I leave my car unlocked and often forget to close my garage door at night exactly b/c crime is nearly non existent near the River. If you have ever driven down the parkway to Mt. Vernon and checked out the neighborhoods you would know this.

It’s hard to see West Potomac improving. The chaotic reputation of the school is a primary reason why higher income families don’t send their kids to the MS and HS and FCPS is just creating a less secure environment by making it bigger for ever more kids from Hybla Valley, Groveton and other areas off Route 1.

I think the real issue is they are experimenting with diversity and have several schools trying to maintain large esol, IB/AP programs, etc. so you end up with several under performing schools. It’s just too much for the schools to manage so many programs. However when you look at the demographics there are significant educational challenges to overcome. Make an esol center of excellence school and send everyone there and make a high performing high school for students that want to focus on AP, trade schools, etc.. I genuinely feel bad for these large administrations that are trying to meet the needs of so many. The schools are funded by the county, so it’s not like they will not have adequate funding. The new West Potomac will likely be better as the middle class/upper middle class population grows due to the new development that is occurring.

Yeah there are very very few houses under 700k. The only ones I have seen are either in need of total gut job (and get scooped by developers) or on major roads. In fact right now there is one small house listed for 595k and no other houses in 22308 for under 850k. I live in Wellington Heights and move everyone I know who moved within last two years was in 950k-1.3 price range.

Wellington Heights is a desirable neighborhood closer to old town -- so prices reflect that. Further south in 22308 you would have had a number of choices at $700k or under until the recent $100k run up in the last year (and the inventory decline).

The elementary schools are good in that area, but I’ve heard from younger coworkers that there is a big bullying problem at Sandburg and West Potomac. I work with a young woman who is in her mid/late-20s and had to do her senior year online with Virtual Virginia because she was being physically threatened at school.
