I absolutely consider environment when buying party supplies. First of all we do not have birthday parties for young kids , not until they are in school and have friends so no party supplies until they are much older.

When I buy - I buy a bare minimum (the same with clothes, toys etc. We do not own a car ). And paper- I found balloons that are honeycomb shaped paper "balloons", that are in the shape of a circle and I made them re-usable by not gluing but using paper clip (when you assemble a balloon). Garlands are paper too and also re-use for years. The banner is paper and I make it myself
The emphasis is on beautifully wrapped gift (all wrapping beginning from last Christmas is either made by us or all paper. my dd sew velvet christmas bags that we are going to use to put gift in) . And then - activities like- baking a cake, watching a movie or making pizza.

I also make paper decor myself by for example making a poster for a child "7 reasons we love you " if the child is turning 7 etc.

I am really worried about the melting ice and hate consumerism but also I can only do the right thing myself. China is producing all those crap plastic junk toys because there is a demand. All those party "favors" are bought by parents. Argh, wish we all (humans) agreed to leave a beautiful earth instead.

Not really but we aren’t the type of people to buy Christmas decorations and NYE decorations and Valentine’s Day decorations and flag plates and so on ad nauseum. Lots of my friends are, but they’re largely the bored room mom type.

We are festive but not excessively extra. I prefer food, lights, etc...

When I buy disposable plates and things for parties online, I find it really annoying to search through all the marketing language to figure out what is actually better for the environment and what I need to do with it to produce an environmental benefit (biodegradable versus compostable versus recyclable). I don't want to have a PhD in environmental studies to buy party supplies - too time consuming!

I’m truly curious if in the long run it is better for the environment if the intelligent and environmentally conscious folks avoid reproduction entirely, leaving the fate of the planet to all of the ignorant materialistic consumers, even if those consumers manage to limit themselves to one spawn only...
