I am really concerned about the mental health of the people who are obsessed about soccer tournaments in which their kids are not participating, as well as about the mental health of their kids who are not leaving the house. So there’s another opinion about interstate ECNL play during a pandemic in which quite a number of people (many not leaving their house) are showing signs of mental illness.

I don’t know anyone who has not left their house.

Just because people think that excessive travel, travel that requires flying etc, is not a wise idea can also be certainly fine with events that are back and forth drivable.

The less one has to eat out, stay at hotels etc the better. The further and longer the stay the less appealing the event is to many.

I don't see a drive to NC and a one night stay at a hotel for a youth soccer game(s) to be significantly more risky than what people might be doing on a normal weekend, assuming the same precautions are being followed, masks, social distancing, etc.

I'll start by saying I plan take my daughter to NC to play in her ECNL games should they decide to do so. I'm not worried about staying in the hotel, driving down there, getting carryout from the restaurants or the actual playing of the game. The one thing that gives me pause is what the girls are going to want to do in the hours they are awake not playing in their games. Normally they will get together and hang out. IMO this is probably the most risky part of this adventure. There are some parents on the team that are allowing sleepovers and others that are so nervous they may be wearing masks inside their house. For this reason I would prefer the up and back same day scenario. We will see what they come up with. If anyone hears anything from their club please let the rest of us who only find out the Thursday before the games know. The cancelled December games are still listed on the ECNL website so obviously we can't go there for information.

He did contribute. You just didn't like his contribution. I'm guessing he didn't like yours. Why don't you just both ignore each other - that way no-one has to leave.

Relax. This is a little chat about youth soccer games. I vote for not having league games held that require overnight stays and hotels and I think the league and clubs should be careful to have that be the rule at this time.

Clearly we have an understanding of the risk and don't need to hear how risky it is. If we were convinced to give up on travel soccer by the other 50 comments, we aren't going to be convinced by you. Please go away unless you have an answer. The question is what is the status of scheduled Winter ECNL games. If you know the answer either way the please share.

Maybe some could be convinced...most importantly, the leagues, clubs and colleges IMO. If those organizations who should be the responsible bodies, are condoning the travel, then it is much more murky for the families.

Other posters are discussing this medical doctor brought on board by the ecnl....where is he in all of this and why is there no statement from him about why the ecnl is making deductions counter to the current guidance about travel?

Do you know the answer? Please share.

Can you take this conversation to the COVID concerns topic? Just discuss winter ECNL league games here. Not tounrnaments or showcases. Just games. Thank you

Unsure what prompted this post considering ECNL has enjoyed Arizona and Florida tournaments with excellent feedback from players, coaches, and scouts/coaches watching online.

The December games were all cancelled so that is a reason to wonder if the January ones are happening. Especially given the COVID numbers are getting worse. I hope they can figure out a way to hold them and would be in favor of meeting in the middle.

I have not heard anything from our club but a friend at another ECNL club said they may relocate games to an in the middle meeting place so no one has to stay overnight.
Even if this happens my guess is all these games will be rescheduled

If you won't participate in what is being asked then you won't participate. But what is being asked right now is to please avoid traveling. Just say you won't do it and move on. Don't pretend that you don't understand what avoid traveling means.

Then be prepared to do it the rest of your life....and start wearing a mask during flu season. And stop driving

If the public health guidance is to wear a mask out during flu season then that is very easy to do. You whine and carry on about nothing. It is just a little piece of cloth.

So you only wear a mask when told to?

The spread of the flu kills millions every year since you’ve been alive. Even with a vaccine. The common cold is deadly as well.
