It wasn't until the day of when things got out of hand that she started to try to pull in the Guard (but they weren't ready because they hadn't been appropriately requested) and MPD.

Agree that when MPD did arrive, they were incredibly brave and prevented the Capitol from completely falling.

But she -- like Sund, the Sergeants at Arms, and others, was part of a royal screw-up. You would think that as a Black woman she would have been more on guard, but she wasn't.

Can you elaborate on that little gem please?

Murial has no say and no jurisdiction over what happens at the US Capitol. How many times to people have to repeat that here?

She wanted a light presence on city streets and voila, there were minimal issues on city streets. Go figure.

The threat was not secret. It was openly mocked ( https://www.washingtonian.com/2021/01/05/maga-geniuses-plot-takeover-of-us-capitol/ ) and apparently she didn’t believe it credible either.

She should not escape responsibility for her part in allowing this event to occur. Had federal agencies come out like they did for some of the BLM events and been prepared to make a show of force, we’d not have had the Capitol overrun and hopefully fewer or no lives lost.

The tweet and the mayor's jurisdiction is related to the city streets, not the US Capitol. There is absolutely NO substance of blame to the District of Columbia OR Mayor Bowser where the events of January 6, 2021 are concerned. If anything, MPD and the Mayor should be thanks for the quick response in preventing a total disaster that day.

DC Police raced to the Capitol as soon as the attack began. They held the door they were guarding.

MPD was prepared. There were no issues in the parts of the city under their control. The Capitol Police were unprepared and the Defense Department was slow to respond, but that had nothing to do with Bowser.

There is one poster who is determined to blame Bowser despite not being able clearly articulate what blame Bowser deserves (the best she has come up with is a failure to arrest curfew breakers). Yet, we are to believe race and gender are not motivations.

Thank you for the link and for your comments. I chimed in way too many times in part because I wasn’t sure that it was only one person making all of those “determined” posts. Since it is, I’ll reserve my energies for the fashion threads.

Not determined to blame Bowser. However, when the title of thread is "Muriel Bowser" obviously comments will focus on what part her decisions and preparation played that day.

So, someone who titled a thread “Muriel Bowser” steadfastly refuses to look at multiple factors, including decisions made by many other people impacting the context of the issues they raised, because: Muriel Bowser. Obviously. Got it. 🙄

I didnt title the thread and throughput I, and many others, have acknowledged (and been horrified by) how the Capitol Police really messed up. However in a thread titiled Muriel Bowser you should expect some discussion of her role.

Your capacity for perseveration and willfully obtuse mis-reading FAR outstrips my stubbornness.
Have a great weekend!

You too!
