We got 2 canisters of WS hot chocolate for Christmas. Haven’t tried it yet. Didn’t know this was a thing. Is it good?

Hey all! It's that time of year. Anyone enjoying their hot chocolate/hot cocoa/drinking chocolate, from Williams Sonoma, Trader Joe's, Belgium, Swiss Miss, or otherwise?

I have a new stove which is more powerful than my old one, and scalded my milk in my first attempt to heat it, but turned down the heat and was successful on my second attempt. I used Ghirardelli cocoa powder, and it was good, but I am not wedded to the brand.

But it isn't the apparent status signifier that "WS" hot chocolate is.

I have high hopes for the 2020 version.

Actually lol'd. Thanks for that.

And note they even feature the WS hot chocolate sampler!

I did see that- so funny. The thing that killed me, though, was the 'Twas Bucket.

Drew says: One of the flavors here is called “Cremoso” which sounds like some kind of villain you have to defeat in a hardcore porn-themed first-person shooter. DON’T LET HIM NEAR THE TWAS BUCKET!

Hot cocoa is super easy to make. Not sure why in the world of all the things you'd order "mix" for this from WS.

Mix equal parts sugar and dutch cocoa powder in saucepan (1Tbs each for 1 serving)

Add a little water and wisk to a smooth paste. Add milk (1cup per serving) and heat on medium. Occasionnally stir. Add in vanilla if you like.

Even better: make your whipped cream while it heats.

FYI WS does deep discounts on hot chocolate after Christmas. If you like it but don't like the normal price, this is the time to get it!

They use water unless you request milk.

Even my kids don't like Starbucks hot chocolate because it's so watery. I don't know how they get away it.

I drink hot chocolate different ways Ibarra Mexican chocolate discs heated in saucepan with milk, chocolate chips melted in microwave with milk, Nutella and hot milk, or evaporated milk mixed with equal amount of water, plus sugar and cocoa heated in a saucepan.

We had hot cocoa this weekend after decorating our tree. We started with popcorn, then moved to the cocoa. I love that combo of salty and then something sweet. I want to buy some proper drinking chocolate for my DD’s stocking this year!

Because she specified Williams Sonoma and shortened it to WS instead of just posting "When/how are your drinking hot chocolate?". It's striking a lot of readers as tacky for one reason or another.

I had no problem with it myself

I picked up powdered Cadbury Drinking Chocolate recently ... put it into my milk frother with 1% milk.

I highly recommend using a milk frother vs microwave to heat the milk if you have one. Now I want a second cup. So good.
