This is just flat out stupid, because the positivity rate (not just raw # but % positive), hospitalizations and deaths are up. The better argument is what science or data shows that this type of limitation on who plays outside soccer makes any real difference in controlling transmission? I guess I could see for parts of PA or WV with higher transmission like someone mentioned, though still doubt it makes a difference. For the immediate DMV it's nonsense. Similar transmission rates and one region where people regularly move about.

While I agree that it's just a knee jerk reaction to cancel outdoor activities such as soccer, it's not true that hospitalization and number of deaths remain the same. This is the change in MD.

So monumentally stupid. Restrictions like this make sense only if you are preventing people from areas with materially higher infection rates from creating greater risks than local teams would. I am pretty certain there are areas in Maryland that are worse than areas in Virginia, and vice versa. Doing it on a state by state basis proves just how dumb people are about this. It may actually be worse depending on where your teams are originating.

Well, yes and no. The tournament has PA and West Va. teams coming from areas with higher rate that Maryland. It wasn't exclusively a VA issue.

OK, then deal with it more surgically than state-wide basis. MoCo has 19.6 cases/100000 per day; Anne Arundel has 23; Baltimore has 26; Fairfax County has 14. Given that most out of state participqants are from NOVA, a broad out-of-state ban makes no sense whatsoever

On the other hand, it looks like this will do a great service to NOVA kids who may have been exposed to Maryland kids from higher-risk areas. SMH.

Thank you for the information. As usual, confusion created by imprecise messaging. Rather than saying that the tournament is cancelled, the message should have said that out of state teams will not be permitted at any tournament

Out-of-State Teams

​Currently Maryland does not have any restrictions on out-of-state teams attending the tournament. We are aware through communication from some teams that have applied that there are states that either have travel restrictions or quarantine requirements for teams traveling to Maryland. While we know that these restrictions/quarantine guidelines are fluid (normally changing every two weeks) we need time to prepare, especially with regards to schedules, so we are asking any out-of-state team to let us know if they cannot travel by the following dates:
