There is no way this thing starts Nov 9. I have an at risk kid with a slot that apparently wasn’t real and dcps central planning won’t answer my emails. They are acting like they can just will this thing into existence. They are forcing a labor action that will be completely justified.

We cannot strike. It’s illegal. What’s supposedly planned is a sick out this Friday, Oct. 30. It was the subject of the WTU meeting this week. They want to take “strong collective action” if negotiations aren’t successful. I don’t know the exact number but a majority apparently voted in favor of the sick out. From hearsay it sounds like it could be more than one day if not effective.

Aren't sick outs a contract violation?

Not negotiating with the union is a contract violation - hence the unfair labor practice

It’s honestly the best path. My kids have a private teacher every day now, are done by noon, and are waaay ahead of DL curriculum.

No official knowledge, but teachers at my school we’re hearing and anticipating Friday.

I’m guessing it would be all grades? And permanent subs are not WTU, just subs.

My child is behind on assignments for the advisory and another day to work - without new work - would be really helpful.

Has DCPS conceded? Are they not opening at all now or just delayed to finalize negotiations with WTU?

I can’t figure out what she does. So very likely title is wrong. She sure seemed confident about the sick out though. I guess we will find out in a few days.

Um, I am female and did several years in the Air Force because I had no other viable option after my mom said she wanted me to leave the house. Surprisingly, young people from the south with zero family money or support do not have an abundance of options. You are an idiot if you think most people in the military at the enlisted levels are "willing" to be there in the true sense.

Others do something else. That is still a choice, no one forced you. You could have worked at a retailer. My own dad was kicked at right at 18, in highschool. He already had a job at walmart. Still managed to get a good job years later after college.

Grandfather came from a dirt poor family and joined the airforce because he too thought that would be the most viable, then when his time was up he had another job. He also actually fought in a war and he never complained. He's happy with life.

Not sure. Work stoppage is illegal, but we are entitled to take our sick leave so I’m not sure calling out sick would count.

Is this definitely happening? Does anyone know when we would be told about this sick out?

I haven’t heard anything beyond it being discussed. I’m guessing they will share more tomorrow:
