Graduated in 2007, definitely no showers. If you were wearing something PE appropriate you didn’t have to change but if you were wearing like jeans or a dress you had to change into sweatpants/shorts/leggings

I'm very glad to hear that gym showers are no longer required. We got sweaty, but being sweaty is far better than being teased about your body & being creeped on by the gym teacher.

My friend who had immigrated from China dissolved in tears on being told that she had to get nekkid in front of everyone. Thankfully, they didn't make her do it.

Same. It would have destroyed my teased hair!

I’m fine with no showering. The don’t do enough to get very sweaty. My DS thought I was lying when I told him that the whole class had to shower together after PE. His words “that is so gay”. When I was in high school in New Jersey about ten boys got in trouble for having a circle jerk. Good thing there were no cell cameras then.

Graduated 93 in Texas...no showers ever...had mid day sports practices, no showers for that either.

My kids are in MS in PA. No showers and no changing even for PE.

It was also a total joke. They would make us parade through the group shower but you could just get wet enough to pass the check list (splash a little water on you). You did not actually get clean.

I graduated in 83 and was never required to shower.

It absolutley was awful. I was an early bloomer in middle school and the other girls all called me beaver. I'll let you figure out why.

I'm glad it's not a thing anymore, especially since my son is uncircumcised. I remember hearing about all the teasing that happened because of that.

LOL. Times have change. My sons are not circumcised either!

we had to shower in MS and HS after PE. I think it's pretty gross that they don't do it now.

If they aren't getting sweaty enough in PE to have to shower afterwards, than PE is a joke and they should not require it.

Graduated in 1990. The first MS I went to mandated showers and it was awful -- a girl got stabbed in the shower. The second MS I went to theoretically mandated showers, but no one enforced it, so no one showered.

My oldest had PE last period all through MS, which was great because it eliminated the shower issue entirely. My son is starting next year and it's going to be BAD if he doesn't shower -- he really runs for pretty much any sport and sweats like crazy. And, unlike his sister, doesn't shave his armpits so the sweat just festers there, despite the deoderant. If you have a half dozen thirteen year olds like him in a room after PE, it's going to be toxic.

My dad was born in 1949 and says the same. Now he says the PE teachers then were definitely creeps but no one thought anything of it because that is how it was done.

For the most part the shower rooms in high schools are used as storage rooms. Hell the nozzles were missing at the school where I work. Go to a high school basketball game. The reams arrive in uniform and leave in uniform. Some reams never go near a locker room.
