My SIL is a nurse. She says if one has antibodies after an infection, the viral load is sufficient enough to kill. I know some 80+ people who had it, minimal or no symptoms, and tested positive for antibodies. The myth that masks reduce viral load and therefore reduce deaths due to that, is just that - a myth.

1,000+ people a day are still dying of COVID. Every day. And that number is about to go up, because cases are going up. The ratio of deaths to cases is lower than it was in March, but it is still killing lots and lots of people.
Even in March, it wasn't an automatic death sentence. Lots of old people with other risk factors survived it. I would not read too much into individual cases of old, fat people surviving it. Lots of people survive it. It does not mean it's not deadly.

If the hospitals are overwhelmed you’ll be sent home not given A+ treatment like these 2 walking triple risk factors. Christie has the grace to know that and recommend masks. In the last 2 months, We had 3 close relatives in mid to late 80s with co morbidities manage through it. No one needed to be hospitalized. No special treatments. One was slightly overweight and diabetic but again no treatment. It was stressful going through this but they came out fine and for two of them, pretty quickly. Our friends who are doctors who treated covid in March now believe there is something very different about it now. In this case, I can’t even say better treatments because they were not given any treatments. It may also be lower viral loads Due to many of the preventative measures. .

We’ve already seen at least one of my husband’s coworkers vented in an ICU with COvID. He made it through, but it was a loooooooong haul - I’d very much like for me and mine to be able to stay far, far away from the ICU. Chris Christie also survived, but who knows if he has any long term consequences as a result? A week in the ICU can have pretty serious repercussions in and of itself, not even taking into account any long term consequences from COVID.
Definitely keeping my mask on and keeping up with the social distancing - nowhere near ready to let my guard down on this!
He was vented? I thought they decided this is terrible. This must have been a long time ago.
My friend who had Covid 12 weeks ago was almost vented. I think people still get vented when their breathing deteriorates badly enough, because otherwise you’d be watching them die as they struggle to breathe. Maybe the difference is they go to high flow oxygen first.

On Monday, the Department of Health and Human Services announced an agreement to secure large supplies of the drug remdesivir for the United States from Gilead Sciences through September, allowing American hospitals to purchase the drug in amounts allocated by HHS and state health departments.
“President Trump has struck an amazing deal to ensure Americans have access to the first authorized therapeutic for COVID-19,” said HHS Secretary Alex Azar. “To the extent possible, we want to ensure that any American patient who needs remdesivir can get it. The Trump Administration is doing everything in our power to learn more about life-saving therapeutics for COVID-19 and secure access to these options for the American people.”
HHS has secured more than 500,000 treatment courses of the drug for American hospitals through September. This represents 100 percent of Gilead’s projected production for July (94,200 treatment courses), 90 percent of production in August (174,900 treatment courses), and 90 percent of production in September (232,800 treatment courses), in addition to an allocation for clinical trials. A treatment course of remdesivir is, on average, 6.25 vials.
Hospitals will receive the product shipped by AmerisourceBergen and will pay no more than Gilead’s Wholesale Acquisition Price (WAC), which amounts to approximately $3,200 per treatment course. Generally, patients do not pay directly for hospital-administered drugs like remdesivir; rather, for Medicare and most private insurers, the drug’s cost is incorporated into payments made by the insurer, such as Medicare paying for the drug through a diagnostic-related group.
These supplies will be allocated in the same way that Gilead’s donation of approximately 120,000 treatment courses of remdesivir were allocated: HHS allocates product to state and territorial health departments based on COVID-19 hospital burden, and health departments allocate it to hospitals. The delivery of the purchased remdesivir will be streamlined, going directly to the hospital, per the state’s allocation decision, rather than going first to the state health departments for subsequent delivery to hospitals.
Shipments will likely occur every two weeks, as they have with the donated product. The final allocation of Gilead’s approximately 120,000 donated treatment courses is being shipped today, June 29.
