The opening of the tank was only 8 inches wide.

The opening was too small for an adult. Even the oldest girl had scrapes on her body from the tank opening.

Why did he bury Shannan in a grace and dump the girls in a oil tank? Why not put Shanan in an oil tank as well?

This woman NEVER put her phone down. She recorded everything and if she was selling an MLM, those people never stop looking at their phones.

This makes sense to me because the slow drip drip drip of facts he revealed shows that he kept lying to try to make himself not seem SO awful. Like admitting he killed Shannan but denying he killed his kids at first.

Driving for an HOUR with Shannan's corpse in the car and the kids curled up in the back seat. He had plenty of time to change his mind.

As a divorced mom of two girls, this hit me hard.

I would like to have him and Scott Petersen explain to us why they'd rather commit stupid murders where they go to jail forever than just get a divorce.

Money.

Simple as that. He'd already declared bankruptcy once with Shanann. His credit was wrecked. To pay child support for 15-18 years on top of that for three kids?

Experts who study familicide will tell you these men feel overhwhelming shame because their masculinity is threatened in some way. They view their wife and kids as possessions not people, who only exist to reflect the man's successful life. He is a textbook psychopath - pathological liar, total apathy for his crimes, narcissism, no friends, extramarital affair... The film shows he checks all the boxes.

He wasn't ashamed of anything. The man had a whole second wife lined up. He just needed to get rid of the first one.

Glad he is where he definitely belongs.
In a cell, for 23 hours every. single. day.
Only can get out for a shower or to exercise.

I agree that he lost those sixty-five lbs. so he could have an affair.
His appearance changed so dramatically.
He went from schmuck >> hunk.

I believe that he killed Bella + Celeste because he didn’t want to get found out that he killed his wife.

Well it’s pretty obvious that was his motivation for killing his kids.

Was it officially verified that this is the order it happened in? I always wondered whether he killed one of the girls while she was out of town and the rest followed.

Autopsies proved the girls were still breathing or at least living when they were put in the oil drums.

Also I don't think the initial reason he killed the girls was to cover up his wife's murder. Remember he strangled both kids first, then he went after the wife in bed. The kids woke up from his suffocation attempt and he bundled them into the truck with the mother's dead body.

They were alive for the car ride.

Where are you getting this information from?

DP here - he smothered both kids, allegedly after killing Shanann and driving 45 minutes to the oil field. Autopsies showed they died of suffocation, but not conclusive about the timing. I haven't seen evidence they were still alive when they were dumped. One girl had oil in her stomach but that doesn't prove she aspirated it. They were in there for a few days.

The cops thought he killed the girls first and then Shanann when she came home. These familicides are usually premeditated. However, he testified that one daughter woke up after he'd killed Shanann and saw the body, so he decided to take them all to the oil field where he smothered the two girls on the spot and dumped them in oil tanks, then dug a grave and buried Shanann.

No one will ever know the whole truth except him.

Yep, I think he killed her during or after the sex.

I really hope this is not true

it is true, at least according to his testimony. They had sex, he told her he was leaving, she threatened he would never see the kids again, then he strangled her. She didn't resist (had no defensive wounds) - probably he'd strangled her before without killing her and she didn't realize this time it was for real.

It's also entirely possible he strangled her during sleep which would explain why she had no defensive wounds, but strangling usually follows an argument or outburst. It's a crime of passion.

Chris Watts also said she was dead face down on the bed when Bella came into the room. That tells me she was sleeping, just like her father thinks.

I doubt he was physically abusive toward her before. He seemed very restrained and it would have come out between how much she shared with friends about their relationship and all of the text messages between them.

It sounded like Chris was super close to his family before shanann. He probably resented her for putting a wedge between him and his parents .

His mother is obviously toxic. You'd have to be blind not to see it.

Honestly I don't think his plan was THAT bad. It all fell apart because Shannan told every single thing to her BFF - including details on their sex lives - and had asked her to take her to a 8AM doctor's appointment, so the friend called the police immediately when she didn't pick up.

I mean there are friends and there are friends. But even I am stump that they went to a 2-day conference together, stayed in the same hotel room together, took a flight back together, drove home together at 2AM, and were still raring to see each other again at 8AM the same morning.

Who does that? That's an unreal bond or dependency - I can't tell which.

The friend called to check on her in the morning because she had been upset on the trip. There weren’t plans to go together to the dr appt. the friend didn’t go to her house until several hours later when she couldn’t get ahold of her.

Agree with the tmi sharing with friends, but I think that’s how some people who aren’t super close with their spouses, or are stressed about their marriages, operate.

Regarding the stupidity, it was the immediate agreeing to the polygraph that struck me.

Yeah, you would think most people would have seen enough cop shows to know you shut up and ask for an attorney at that point

I sheepishly admit to watching a lot of video of him (pretty much all that Shannan every posted which is a ton) and he's clearly not the brightest guy at all. He was honestly pretty dumb.
What I'm surprised about is that the girlfriend could put up with it. She's bright and college educated. I guess she thought he was hot. But he was pretty much as dumb as a rock.

Off topic, but why did she post so much video? Did she have a YouTube channel?

Narcissism. She wanted to prove she had a great life.

I was stunned neither he nor the girlfriend had an attorney present for their investigations. I mean, I've hired an attorney to fight a speeding ticket, I would say nothing without first calling an attorney.

I can see it for the girlfriend, because she had nothing to hide, but it is amazing that a Chris didn’t. Then again in many of these cases, they don’t ask for attorneys. I don’t think Casey Anthony did either.

Some people believe that having an attorney is an admission of guilt. They believe just what you said- people with nothing to hide don’t need a lawyer. That’s putting a lot of faith into our justice system.
