Why do I need a plastic cereal container for the pantry (which btw eventually becomes just one more thing that needs to be cleaned) instead of finishing the box, and recycling it.
I ask this as someone who is pretty exceptionally organized, and childless on her own, so it’s not a hate statement and more just a 1. Why expand the extra effort on deboxing and cleaning and 2. Why spend the extra money on things that then create extra effort?
(I do otherwise like the show and Joanna and Clea, and have spent the morning on a binge, but had no idea who these people were a week ago).

I've been doing it so long I have about a dozen matching ones. You can paint them if you want to be more fun. I usually just tape the label on the outside or use a piece of scotch tape with sharpie to label what's inside.
I do use the plastic storage for some larger items, like bags of flour, cereal, etc. Costco is often a decent place to buy that stuff.
I agree with the idea of zone storage, and I try to label the areas. Gettng family members to comply with my zones is a whole different problem (even with my nice labels!) I feel like all these systems work better when you have one person who does all the cooking and cleaning.

I like their personalities and the way they respect people's stuff and genuinely try to make workable solutions for them. I think they are a little OOT with the rainbow/color coding but dividing things into zones makes sense to me so I've incorporated some of their ideas into my house. Is it just me or is the container store really expensive? $20 for a container to hold your cereal seems like a lot to me although I love so many of the things in that store.
I follow them on Insta too but didn't pay much attention to them because I was turned off by all of the packaging and waste. I try to reduce waste, limited paper towels, buy in bulk and that's why it makes sense to me to store bulk items in more useable day to day containers so I get turned off when they line up about 50 bags of pirate's booty, just for asthetic purposes. I wish they were a little more environmentally conscious with some of their choices. I guess they are only arranging other people's stuff, but I feel like it encourages other people to buy individually wrapped stuff just because it "looks good."
That's too bad. With their platform, it would be great if they infused some environmental consciousness into their work.

And LOL at their reactions every time someone has a "junk drawer." I don't have one either, but have a "supply drawer" with stapler, pens, stamps, pads of paper. Those are my people.

At the start of the pandemic the two of them were traveling a lot (probably finishing up filming the series) but were extremely frightened of catching covid on a plane. They caused a scene during boarding on one flight and were asked to deboard.
Between that and the constant marketing of “stuff” on IG, I’m kind of turned off but did enjoy the Marie Kondo series, so might end up watching at some point.
I did pick up on her personality. I'm off to google her plane freakout.
I couldn’t find any stories on this!
Clea detailed it in her IG stories when it happened. Apparently Joanna has flight anxiety in the best of times, and they were both a mess once covid was circulating. Clea detailed all their drama with each flight- they tried to hand disinfecting wipes to everyone who got on the plane and were mystified and disgusted when people refused them. They did their usual “we’re insanely stressed out, take a wipe” schtick on a flight and some sort of drama ensued. Joanna and possibly Clea too got really upset and were crying, and the flight attendant intervened and told them to rebook on another flight. They immediately posted an IG story, trying to spin the whole thing in a sympathetic (to them) light, but the facts are what they are.
One of them, I believe it is Clea, has made similar scenes trying to get backstage at concerts in Nashville. And pitched an absolute drunken fit when she didn’t get her way.
