Wow. I had no idea. I hope cases doesn’t continue to increase as MoCo will surely shutdown soccer again.

If clubs can't manage the risks appropriately, they should shut it down.

The article is very vague. It doesn't say that four players of one team have tested positive. Or four people of one family of one club. Or four random players of one club. Or some combination. If it is four players of one team of one club, then yes, I would question what is happening. If it is four random people spread over hundreds in one club, it is probably just the odds of catching it. Clubs are not doing everything they can to enforce the rules but neither is Home Depot. We can only do so much and it is up to the parent or person to determine the level of risk that they are willing to take.

Right now, we don’t know exactly who or how Potomac players got COVID. It could be from a game played against out of state teams in VA, etc. Blaming Potomac Soccer at this point is foolish and irresponsible until we know the facts and contact tracing.

Playing during COVID has its risks. Clubs, teams, leagues and County officials have in place policies, rules and regulations but parents need to take responsibility as well since it’s your DC. Don’t be nonchalant about the COVID risk of infections.

I’m eagerly awaiting more detailed information about this situation.

Who said the clubs mismanaged anything? Does managing the risk mean zero infections? Should you be attributing anything to soccer? The clubs? This is exactly the opposite of science. I agree with your statement, but it is vacuous and stupid with reference to the story.

I know the investigation is just beginning and these teammates are still in quarantine and could test positive later, but two cases on a team could be so many causes and isn't exactly screaming team outbreak with soccer as the headline.

- did the kids spend time together in close contact outside of soccer practices/games? Hanging out, going to eat, stuff like that.
- are the kids connected to other known outbreaks?
- did additional teammates test positive?
- did opposing teams test positive?

This can actually be some informative data points with competent contact tracing and transparency. Unfortunately it seems like we always get the alarmist headlines and never learn this type of stuff. Now we actually have a real example in MoCo. I'd be really curious to learn this info and stick my foot in my mouth if numerous teammates and opposing players test positive. They should report out the findings, including info on the contact between positive teammates outside of soccer.

We asked for this information as parents, club leadership was unresponsive.

Also, if it's high school kids, anyone who has been paying attention has seen teenagers out and about increasingly easing up and spending more time together. Kids on teams are often friends and hang out together. I guess it's technically true that the outbreak is associated with the team, but does it actually have anything to do with playing soccer?

Let's see what they did together and other patterns.

Sorry, as someone who does investigations and root cause analysis, this is just screaming as only one commonality amongst other critical factors. And it can obscure what's a true root cause if allowed to grab attention and not work through the other spread factors.

Gayles mentioned they name of the club during the briefing today. Potomac Soccer.

Is the COVID case at Potomac recent?

Yes. Dr Gayles says it is active investigation. 4 positive cases, and a number 30 (?) in quarantine while awaiting results. A reporter asked for the details so I expect it will show up in a local news story soon.

Wow. We are at Potomac and have no idea or sent any information. I assume it’s not our team so we were not notified.

Likely linked to the WH party attended by rule makers did not follow rules.

Yes. Follow rules. Brush your teeth. Eat your broccoli. Blah blah blah blah. I do but understand why people get tired of listening to people like you and act irresponsibly. You may want to take that into account as you wind down the endless and gaseous stream of Tsk tsks that emanate from you daily.
